Hi,

I started playing golf last summer (July 2010) when I was invited to a golf tournament by one of my business partners and you could safely say I've been bitten by the Golf bug!

Up until two weeks ago, I was borrowing clubs from a friend, but I finally bought a set of clubs (at least some clubs) two weeks ago.

I have a Ping Rapture Driver (12*, Reg, Diamana) that I bought in October in a sale. I have Titleist AP1 Irons (4i to PW). I have two Vokey wedges (56* and 60*) and I have a Odyssey White Ice Rossie Putter (34''). My next purchase is going to be a fairway wood or hybrid (17* - 20*).

My major challenges at the moment is that I can barely hit any irons from 4i to 6i (strong draw / hook) and that I do not have any fairway woods. It means effectively I have just a Driver and then the next club I can confidently use is my 7 iron. My putting is not much either, I have a putting average of 2.41. My strong sides are a fairly good and consistent drive (about 65-70% fairways hit and on average 200-210 mtrs) and I play well with my wedges.

I typically play like a 29-30 HCP, but I do not have an established HCP yet.

Any tips or ideas are welcome! I have to say I appreciate the quality of discussions on this forum, and also in general the mature tone and constructive attitudes of the forum members.

Welcome! I am a beginner too and I started in aug 2010, I practiced very often and recently broke 90.

You should consider getting hybrid clubs as they are easier to hit than long irons.

Good to know that you have good driving accuracy. Practice short games (e.g. chipping) will help you improve a lot

Good luck!

P.S. I am a big fan of Czech football player Tomas Rosicky!

Thanks for the input, but I've just bought a 19* fairway wood. Hopefully it will help me out. My thinking was that I hit my driver much better than my irons, and that the fairway wood would be closer to the driver.

Thanks and well done on braking 90! Hopefully I will be there at the end of this year. My goal is to reach a HCP of 18, which means a 92 on my home course.

Even though I live in Czech Republic, I'm not Czech. However, Rosicky is still a great player!
