Hey all,

I want to buy a 3 wood, yet since I love my 3 and 4 hybrids so much, I might as well find a hybrid to replace a 3 wood, since the woods are generally difficult to hit. Is there such an animal? I see Titleist and Adams and Nike have a 1(15*) hybrid. Would it be safe to assume, that by having the same loft as the 3 wood, these hybrids will produce the same results distance wise?

Two things to consider:

* A FW usually has a longer shaft than an H with same loft. So, FW shots will go farther.

* Woods have more bulge (left-ro right curve) in the clubface than hybrids. The bulge generates a "gearing" effect: shots hit toward heel spin back toward center, as do shots hit toward toe.

If you have had past trouble with 3Ws, try a 4W - it has a degree or two more loft, and a Golf Digest survey rates it as easier to hit than a 3W.

Also, do you have a driver that's not listed in your bag mix?

Focus, connect and follow through!

Seems to me that a 15-17 hybrid would be more a replacement for a 1 iron or 5 wood rather than a 3 wood, mainly due to shaft length.

It might work out to be a good substitute though, depending on what you want to do with it.

I like the suggestion of a 4 wood also.  Look for something in the 16-18 loft rannge with around a 42 inch shaft and relatively smaller head and lower COG. Should be controllable off the tee and easier to get airborne from the fairway.

The 15-17 hybrid has always intrigued me though. If I ever upgrade my bag it would be something I'd consider.

Thanks all. I was hoping to have something between my driver and 3 hybrid for long par 3s. I guess I'll demo different 3 woods to find the easiest to hit.

I carried a 16 degr. Adams last year (Black Pro something) ..... it was as hard to hit as a 1 or 2 iron and if well struck it went about the distance of a 18 degr. 5 wood (which equals the old about 4 wood) ..... IMHO there is no Hybrid replacement for a 3W.

I played a 15* hybrid for a couple of seasons and totally loved it. I ended up replacing it with a 3 wood but wish I hadn't. Distance was a little less but so much easier to hit in my opinion.
