Srixon created a winner by offering the Srixon Z Star and Z Star X in the optic yellow color.  They now have an orange ball although I don't know if it's available in the U.S. yet.

I expect other companies will also jump on the colored ball bandwagon.  I play the Srixon Z Star and will test the Bridgestone B330-RX just due to my swing speed but I can definately see the optic yellow balls better than a standard white ball.

Loved the Zstars...both regular and x...i'm lookin to try the new nike's mentioned in the OP's link...my pops plays the RX, just sent an email to him to let him know the yellow range balls now come in RX sleeves lol...hard to believe other companies won't release other premium/better quality balls in yellow as well.

I use the Bridgestone E-6 Yellow balls.. but its a toss up when the greens are dry. Dry greens means I'm switching to my RX or RXS balls.

In all honesty, I lose yellow balls much like I lose white balls. I have a tendency to lose balls primarily in cacti, lakes, and thorned bushes. Oh and in areas of forest with questionable noises coming from within. Haha.

I think the main point is that there is a company that is listening to what people want. Now Bridgestone, if you could make a ball that goes where I want it to, regardless of my swing, that would be super!

Wanted to pass this along.  If you like the e6 yellow/orange edition.  They are on clearance at Golf Galaxy for $21.99

My local shop even has them for $19.99

I went to Target today and they are still $26.99

They say limited edition on the box so I guess Bridgestone meant it because they came out around November I believe.

I bought a dozen e6's in orange as my emergency/winter ball. I might have to pick up another dozen if they aren't making them anymore.

Compared Srixon Z Star yellow with B330 RX yellow.
Z Star marginally longer, B330 softer and less durable - great around the greens though. I still prefer Srixon but there is a very little difference. $$$ will decide.

By the way e6 yellow is a good all-rounder.

I have used the Bridgestone B330RX  white and yellow balls and the Srixon Z-star white and yellow.  For me, the Z-star outperforms the B330RX in spin on approach shots and durability, and pretty significantly.  I like the feel of the Z-star around the greens better, and the spin around the greens.   The B330RX might be a little longer off the tee and off the irons.  My swing speed is pretty close to 90 mph, give or take 1 or 2 mph.   I wish I knew what the difference in distance off the tee is between the two golf balls.   As far as I am concerned, if the B330RX isn't at least close to 10 yards off the tee I would give up the distance for everything else the Zstar has to offer.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
