I just purchased a bucket of 50 Titleist DT Solo balls in mint condition that were recycled. I haven't received them yet, but has anyone else used recycled balls before and if so how were they?

I figured why keep spending $25 for a dozen of these when I could get 50 for almost the same price. I'm no pro, so I don't need top of the line stuff.

Haha! I gotta put in some input here. I bought 36 Bridgestone B330-RX balls on ebay for 39.99. Just got them yesterday and WOW, 30 out of the 36 were almost brand new!! Some very minor nicks, but dang, I Was pleased. The lostgolfballs website has great deals too!!! Let me knw if you want me to give you the name of the company I bought them from.

Lost Golf Balls is where I got them from. Glad to hear positive feedback on them.

I have bought some from knetgolf.com before and it was a mixed bag but a great deal...  most were brand new, but a few had minor issues.  Mainly the new ones were corp logo balls.  For some reason they drive me nuts, especially if I have no idea what the company is.

We have a place down the street that is running a special on Pro V1s for 19 a dozen.  You can pick your own and avoid the logos.  It is an awesome deal as the balls are mint.

I don't remember who I bought from, it has been a couple of years, but I thought the recycled balls were dead.  I bought 3 dz NXT Tours and maybe 6 of them were pretty beat up, 6 looked brand new, the other 2 dz were ok but all of them seemed to play dead.  I will not be doing that again, IMHO you can buy new balls and get better results for almost the same money.

LGB is great... I'd also recommend GolfBallNut.com... I've bought from them a few times and have been very happy with them.

Just got my bucket. Pretty happy with the quality. Most did have logos and player markings, but I inspected each one and only a few were scuffed up. Not a big deal because I'll use the like new balls on the nice courses and the rest on the par 3's and not so nice courses.

Has anyone ever bought high-end balls from one of these places?  I prefer to play proV1's or B330's, but with funds being tight this year I'm looking to save money, so am considering buying recycled but I'm nervous about the quality and wasting my money

Posted

Also want to put in a vote for LGB.  I've only bought their AAA/3rd quality balls and they've all been in very good condition.  I can't see myself ever paying for new balls again (or for that matter paying for the higher grade balls from LGB they've been that good).

I can't speak to the high end question; go mostly with the mid level balls (NXT, HX, etc.).

I've purchased a LOT of Nike Tour D's from lostgolfballs.com that were great.  A friend of mine who only plays B330's has bought from them multiple times and has been very pleased.

Thanks for the input.  I'm glad to hear that as funds are low for me this year.  Do you and your friend purchase the highest grade?

Posted

Yes, I've only purchased the highest grade through lostgolfballs dot com.

It depends who you buy them from.  Most of the, "recycled" ball sellers have a rule that they dont sell waterballs.  Water is what makes golf balls feel dead.  That used to be the case a lot with recycled balls but not really anymore.

Buying recycled balls is a way to play a premium ball at the price of a budget ball.

I just found out that they did a sale for locals for 15 a dozen.  Anyway they are doing internet sales...ProVs for 21 shipped, Bridgestone for 15 shipped minimum 3 dozen.  These are mint balls, but they do have logos.  Here is their price list.

I have never mail ordered from them but have bought a few dozen in their stores and was very happy with the product.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
