Thanks for all the replies.

So after starting this thread i picked up "silent mind golf" again, which basically provides a program for 'not thinking'.

I'm going to try and put it into action, which looks like it will take a commitment of a few months.

Driver: Nakashima 10.5 degree
3 Wood: 15 degree F2
Hybrids: 19 and 21 degree
Irons: MP-58, 4-9 iron
Wedges: Vokey sm 47.06, 53.08, 58.08Putter: studio select 2.5Ball: Pro Vx : Warren Golf Club 73.6 : 146

i usually write down two or three swing thoughts to remember...not that i am going to think about them every swing or anything.  but when i am out on the course and i need to make an adjustment..i remember the 3 things that are the most relevent for me to remember instead of finding some band aid to fix it for the round.

if i do have a swing thought that i think about during every swing it will be a feeling in the setup or takeaway.  like keep my arms against my chest or something like that.

Sorry I been away for awhile.  But I should have said that mechanical swing thoughts don't work for me.  I can't seem to think about things like turn you hips, keep the left arm straight, right elbow down, etc.  But I can seem to get away with thoughts like watch the ball, do a wide arc, pause at top or start down slow, etc. which I don't see as mechanical.  But I'll admit the definition of what is mechanical and what isn't is fuzzy.

Yeah, that was my point. Not trying to be confrontational or anything, but to me, wide arc, pause at the top, start slow down are mechanical feelings. Even focusing on the ball is in some regard mechanical since you put an effort in keeping your eyes looking at the same spot. Thinking about the target, birds or butterflies are not mechanical thoughts.

Ever consider how Tony Romo can get the crap kicked out of him for 6 months then a month later try to qualify for the US open?  Good athletes (pros more so) have a connection between their brain and their motor reflex's vastly better than some dude sitting behind a desk all week.

The effectiveness of a swing thought is merely how quickly and efficiently the mind transmits the information.  To say that Tony Romo knows more about the golf swing than any of us is not correct.  As a pro athlete Romo is just better at making his body do what his mind tells it.

A high level golfer is so in tune with his swing he feels his body and club position every inch of the way.  If he makes a bad move or gets slightly out of position all kinds of bells go off in his head at the moment it happens.  Unlike you a me who hit a bad shot and say WTF just happened.

    • Adding in, feeling like I purposely try to smash the clubhead into the ground 2 ft behind the ball. Just an arms down swing feel visual.
    • Its good to hear you're back to swinging, and more important that you're feeling healthy enough to do it.  As Bill says, take it gently, push just a little, I'm sure you'll be back to speed soon.
    • Yeah, all of the basic PA relief options are available for just one stroke.  However, 17.2a(2) offers an additional choice, the Player might choose to take Stroke and Distance by dropping within the PA, where he made his first attempt to play from the PA.  If he decides after dropping not to play it, he can then take any of the other options, for one additional PS, two in total.   Model Local Rule E-11 is probably being used.  The Committee can define whether the rule applies only to specific power lines or structures, could limit it to only those lines or structures in bounds.  However, then you have to determine where the ball hit the power line, which is pretty difficult, so most often they apply no matter where the ball hits the power line.  You can check the specific wording of the local rule to be sure. And the MLR as written applies no mater where the ball ends up.  So I think you did right, the player should replay the stroke with no penalty. You're right, the DQ only applies if a Stroke is made with the non-conforming club.  We'd have acted very quickly if we could have avoided that.  However, he had stickers on the driver, and we were made aware he had hit driver several times before we got the report.
    • Always summed up my feelings about the man.  I'm a life-long Reds fan (took me till 12 to discover hockey). Even though I was pretty young, I remember the excitement when Rose came back to Cincinnati from Montreal and broke Cobb's record.  My parents weren't big TV people, so the night he got that hit off Eric Show, I was messing with an ancient black and white we had in the basement. Got it to work just well enough with the rabbit ears to get a half decent picture. It was an exciting moment for sure.  Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. I suppose it is always tough on kids when their team's major stars show their warts. All those years of denial plus the occasional indication that he may have been an out-right pedophile, makes it hard for me to feel much one way or another. After all, the man is dead.
