I had a revelation today playing 18. I was having a hard time, well majority of it was because i had 20-25mph sustained winds, with some 30+ mph gusts, and the fact the golf course was a water log, and i am not that good in extremely wet conditions. But, besides that, i was hitting the ball poorly in the first 9 holes, then on the back nine, i tucked my hip up more, and stick my butt out more. I was shocked at how much more stable my stance was, i felt like i could just swing and didn't have to worry about my balance. Even though i only shot a few shots better on the backnine, my driving was better. I was hitting push fades and some push draws, alot of straight shots as well. I felt like my contact was way better. I just couldn't judge the wind, and i still take way to many divots just behind the ball. I can muscle the ball pretty well, i am not use to hitting the ball first, that contact. I had a few good irons were i got the feeling of that, so its a work in progress.

But for those who have hard time with there balance with regards to moving towards or away from the ball, try sticking your tush out more and getting your shoulders closer to the ball. Then you can really coil around your center and it frees up your arms to.

A pro who tought me once said, "Chest out, bum out" when talking about set up at address. Really makes you feel awkward at first, but it works.

I'm not a fan of that if "chest out" implies pulling your shoulders back, which it seems like it must to me since how can you have your chest out with rounded shoulders?

Thanks, johnthejoiner, for that video.  That's been one of my areas of weakness for years, so seeing it rather than reading about it, will help.  Thanks for that.

I agree with Iacas on the chest thing. I don't like to see people with there chest pulled together, there hands pointing straight in line with there club, or something like that. But pulling your shoulder blades together will only create an issue in the swing because you will have a rounded back at impact. Look at majority of the pro's at impact, there backs look rounded, they don't have there chest out.
