I never played vokey wedges and bought them this year. I played a round the other day, it was 38 degrees out mind you but i hit my 54 vokey 95 yards and I used to hit my cleveland 56 110. I'm hoping it was the the cold weather because I can't afford a gap of 125 yards with my pw to 95 with my 54 vokey. I did leave the clubs and balls out in my car overnight as well.

Driver: Titleist 910d2

Irons: Mizuno MP4s kbs tour shafts

Vokey Wedges 50 54 & 58

Putter: Scotty Cameron Fastback

Balls: Pro v1x

I guess the logical question is: "Why did you switch from Cleveland?"

I have a 54° Vokey that is exclusively my sand club, and a 56° Cleveland CG15 which is my LW (I don't carry anything higher).  I love both for those purposes.  I'm not in love with the Vokey for anything else though, and I don't use either for full shots.

38 degrees? I would safely say this would affect distances greatly....maybe 15 yards worth.

Definitely cold weather will be a factor, is it the only one, won't know till it warms up. I would try them side by side if you can then no matter what the temp is you'll at least have a base comparison. I know at the end of last season I was playing in early november, I think it was in the teens with the windchill and my distances were a joke, all you could do is laugh. I normally hit my pitching wedge 120 and I was lucky to get 90 yards that day due to the weather and just being bundled up.

I hit my 52 degree Vokey the same distance as any other OEM's 50 degree wedge. I think it was the weather.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

At 38 degrees out I would be lucky to be within 1 and 1/2 clubs on any shot.

At the match play tournament in AZ I over heard Bubba Watson discussing the distance loss due to the frost delay. Between him and his caddy, they figured it was about 25 yards of carry, but that distance was made up by 30 yards extra of roll. At the Phoenix tournament, I remember someone in the 1st group off on Friday hitting an 8 iron from 130, didn't seem to hit it bad and ended up pin high. Temperature has a big effect on how much the ball is compressed at impact.

Only if the ball is as cold as the air.  Cold air itself has little effect on carry.  Cold air is slightly denser than warm air, but it doesn't have a huge impact, certainly not more than a half club.

How's the weight/swingweight difference between the wedges?  I recall the vokeys I've swung feeling really heavy to me, although it was in comparison to the Adams wedge I have which is extremely light.  I've not swung the Clevelands, but if there's a large difference in weight, maybe it causes you to contact the ball with more loft with the Vokey, leading to the lost distance.  That's about the only thing I can think of, but I'm inclined to think that the 38 degrees could do it.  Especially if you're wearing heavier clothes than you use for your normal distance measurement.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

    • Day 252: worked on chipping for a while with my chipping net. Worked on low, medium, and high shots. Productive session.
    • Day 180 - 2025-03-29 Not a long time today, but I got my five minutes in jumping and doing some work on the downswing.
    • I’ll just stick to the basics for now - got enough to work on… this is my home practice range. The little clearing in about the center of the photo is roughly 200 yards.

    • Played Musgrove Mill today. 72.3/155. +9 for 15 official holes as 2 holes are closed, and the par 5 16th plays as a converted par 3. We played the first three holes over to finish 18, and parred 1 and2 amped bogeyed 3. The good: hit every fairway. 1 less than normal for the converted par 3, but the second time I have done that this year. My sand wedge approach on 10 after a monster drive hit the pin in the back left corner hit he pin and spun away to 9’, and I missed the putt.   The great: hit 8 GIR and 7 were inside 10’. Needs work: Missed every birdie putt. No lip-outs. Just struggled on fast greens. Three-putted the par-5 9th with the pin on the back tier and jut missed hitting my approach to the proper level and it spun all the way to the front of the green.
