Main thing--you need to create more room (space) in order to achieve a better impact and release just past impact.  Currently, your swing looks a bit tight/cramped.

This starts with the backswing--see "deep hands thread" http://thesandtrap.com/forum/thread/30325/deep-hands-explained .  Your arm and club positions at the top of the swing are very steep--some are able to correct this by dropping the arms straight down quickly at the beginning of the forward swing, but this requires a lot of timing and lots of practice--simpler to have the arms and club in a deep position at the top of the backswing.

Then, on the forward swing, push your hips forward more/faster/longer and straighten your left leg faster--you might have to feel as though you are snapping your left leg straight as fast as possible.

Getting into a deeper position and extending more and faster into impact will improve your ball striking and distance.

Hard to tell from the video. What kind of ball do you hit (high, low, hooking, slicing, straight?). Your 8-iron swing looks like a pitching wedge swing - very up and down like you're to throw it way up in the air.

It's not too bad (depending on how long you've been playing) - maybe just a bit little quick, and loose, but like I said, hard to tell from those videos (not high enough frames per second).

Thanks guys for the responses and your advice.  My typical ball flight is mid tradj.  I'd really like to hit the ball higher...I feel like my short irons don't get the ball up like other players I've seen at the range.  It does go straight though, with occasional draw.  This really is my first big year getting back into the game (between college and military life, had to take a few years off) especially now that I have the free time.  Really want to get serious.

Looking at my own video, it seems that my upper body is leaning too far forward over the ball.  Maybe I should be standing up taller.  And I do realize as well that the top of my swing is very steep.  It's automatic for my arms to put it in that position and I'd LOVE to get it lower.

It looks like you are coming up out of your posture too early as well.

    • @colin007, in terms of realistic sci-fi, its the best ever. They actually had an astrophysicist consult on the movie to be as accurate as possible with what we know about the universe.  For like dystopian, Blade Runner is probably king. Action/suspense is probably Alien/Aliens. Though Starship Troopers is fantastic. The Matrix is amazing.
    • Day 4 (August 14).  Full swing in my indoor practice room;  6-iron, off a mat, into a net.  Focus was on what I believe was my priority piece at last lesson (which, admittedly, was almost three years ago, due to absence).  I hit about a dozen balls this morning before going into the office.  (Also, errata to yesterday:  9 of the 12 coins were picked up on the second or third go around -- you can't pick up one on the first go around for that drill)
    • Watched The Gentlemen, took a little bit to get into it, but very good Guy Ritchie movie.  Collin Farrell and Hugh Grant were great. Give it a birdie.
    • Played in the Rhode Island CC Senior Member guest, my partner and I won the tournament. 2-day Stableford format, we ended with 104 points, won by 7. Points include 2 holes on each 9, where both players score count, can make up some points if you both play well on those holes.  @DaveP043has played a similar format (I played with Dann from RICC).
    • Played Wannamoisett CC on Monday.  What a neat old Donald Ross course, Par 69.  The conditions were immaculate, might be one of the best maintained courses, I've played.
