Hey guys

Finally got into the magic 70s with a nice 78. Made a 12 footer on 18 to get it. It was awesome. I played really well and was hitting my irons the best I have in a long time. the best/worst part of the round is I had close to 34-36 putts so it could have been better but I was pretty excited non the less. Went out the day after knowing that another day in the 70s might not be in reach, but the wheels felt like they flew off. Granted I shot an 85 but I was thinning every shot and I mean every shot. Could barely get off the tee and found about 10 bunkers on the day. The only reason it was an 85 was bc my chipping was real good. But anyone ever feel like they found the missing piece and then all of a sudden lose it? I hate and love this game so good one day not so much the very next day.

I hate to give you a general statement, but thats golf. You just have to always keep working on thr range until you get consistantly in the 70's. Its no different than someone breaking 90 the first time only to shoot 96 the next time out. Keep after it and you will do well.

Same situation, shot 80, 81, 83 mid season last year and was feeling good, ready to break 80 anytime. Now I have a hard time breaking 90 it seems. But my wedges and putter are coming around nicely so I'm doing it soon.

Well said.

How many times has a tour player shot a 64 one day and then followed it up with a 70 the next day?  I heard somewhere that you never own a great golf swing, you only rent it.  With that, developing a good/great swing takes a tremendous amount of effort, but it is just part of the equation.  The other part of the equation, maintaining it, can be every bit as difficult, if not more.

Yes, this happened quite recently to me. Before the winter I could hit a 7I to within 6 feet on a par 3. Now, I can barely get the ball into the air. The first reply says it all; it's the up and down of golf (no, not that up and down).

The first time I shot <80 was at a high school tournament with a 78. Then the tournament the next day I shot 88. Then the one after that I shot 74.

Like kpaulhus said, that's golf. Lots of ups and downs as well as some lefts and rights.

For me, when I shot good scores is when I tried the least. I could go out and try to do well, and I'd fail. When I just went out and played and had fun, I'd do well.

The best part about golf is practice, it may not feel like it compared to playing, but it's what makes playing more enjoyable.

It's a long season, depending on how many rounds you are able to complete, so it's sometimes better to assess progress over mutiple rounds versus every one.  The same approach applies to losing weight, getting back into shape, or anything being pursued over a long horizon - focus on the longer term, and measure performance more in the aggregate.

Thanks for the responses guys

Ya I know its golf and thats why I play it. But I can confidently say golf is the most stressful sport ever

Yeah I broke 80 the first time a few years ago and didn't play much the following years and got back up into the high 80s and even 90s. Its such an up and down game. In my opinion when you shoot well one round, it makes it that much harder to do it next time because of the added stress. Its so strange how hard it is to play under the pressure.
