To buy the R11 or not to buy the R11

Right now i have a Taylormade Burner, not sure what version it is but its the one when the back sticks out a little bit.

Im hitting pretty good with that at the moment but ill have great driving days and then ill have ones where i cant hit it straight at all.

My golf coach has this deal with Taylormade where i can buy an R11 for just 230$

Would it be worth it? Or should i just keep my Burner?

I would say try out the R11 first.  The R11 and the Burner Superfast (which is what you have, I believe) are two different clubs.  The R11 has a 440cc head while the BSF has a 460cc head, for example.  The focus of the BSF is to get a high clubhead speed and great distance; arguably, the R11 is more focused on control.  $230 is a great price for the R11 but it's not a good deal if the club doesn't work for you.

at 230 bucks. Buy it. You can easily sell it for the same amount if you don't like it.

Thanks for all the comments guys and ive decided that i am going to buy the R11. I thought it was just too good of a driver to pass up

I can also customize it with a shaft and a grip for no cost, but most of the shafts i cant use because im not buying the tour version so i only get to choose from Fukijara Blur 60 and Fukijara Blur 70 and i have no idea what the differences are.

For the grip i have no clue what to choose, the one o have no i slightly bigger than stock so im guessing it would be midsize?

This is the list of golf ride grips that i have to choose from, cuz i might need a little help choosing :)

The difference in the blur shaft is really just weight the 60 is lighter than the 70.  Just pick whatever grip you like the most they are all good.tour velvets are nice

The Blur 60 arguably gives you more clubhead speed because of its light weight and, therefore, promotes a longer (but less controlled) ball flight.  The 70 will give you more control/accuracy but you'll likely lose something distance-wise.  A third option is to get a new sleeve and shaft.

I recently added a new R-11 to my bag as well, although not at the price you got one for. I had purchased a Diablo Octane this past Christams that I got for $100 off msrp on a one day only after Christmas sale at my local golf shop. I hit it ok on the simulator at the shop, but when on the range and at the course it never gave me the confidance that my previous driver, an 09 Taylormade burner did. The local golf shop had a big demo days event at one of the local golf courses and just about every major golf company was there. I tried the new drivers from Nike, Callaway, Cleveland, and even tried the Burner Superfast 2.0. The razerhawk wasnt all that much different from my Diablo octane, and the Nike and Cleveland just didnt give me that warm fuzzy feeling inside. I hit the Burner Superfast 2.0 and when struck solidly it would really fly, but it had an odd sound on impact. It wasnt bad just not that high pitched "ting" sound that I have grown to love from todays drivers but, it was definately built for distance,.... it was really long but I just think that extra length of shaft punished me more than the gain in distance helped. I never tried the R-11 because I thought it was just a little too "gadgety".

A week or so later I was at my local golf shop again and was "still" looking at drivers and decided for humor sake to try the R-11. I hit several balls on the simulator and got warmed up and then the sales guy said he would tweek it for "my" swing. Both, my Burner 09 and Diablo Octane are 9.5* stiff. So we started with the 10.5deg R-11 set at 9.5 deg loft with the sole at N and the weights with the 10g in the heel and 1g in the toe. I just wasn't getting the optimum trajectory so we moved it to 10.5 deg and then all the sudden I hit it really well and it seemed that it was easier for me to square the shorter shafted R-11 than some of the other "distance" drivers. I hit consistant draws in that configuration, but it was not as easy for me to get the ball to fade a little. In the end we finally left it at 10.5 deg loft and N sole plate, and swapped the weights and put the 10g in the toe and the 1g in the heel. I hit a few more balls on the simulator and seemed pretty happy, but I wasnt sold just yet. I then decided to take the club and demo it at my course and range a few days. After testing it out on the driving range and playing with it a few rounds I fell in love with it. It wasnt quite as long at the Superfast 2.0 or the Diablo Octane,.... BUT my shots were much more controlled and its much easier playing from the fairway than from the rough for me. I would say that its on average only about 6 - 8 yards shorter though. One other thing to note is how I was shocked at how the R-11 club head looks to be the same size as the Diablo Octane when standing over the ball.

In the end I took the demo R-11 back to the shop and traded in my Diablo Octane for a new R-11 and had it regripped with one the Golfpride new decade mid size grips to match the rest of my clubs.

I got a chance to hit the R-11 today at the range.  A guy next to me had just bought one and asked me if I wanted to try it.   I didn't want to believe the hype but the R-11 is the best driver I've ever hit, ever!

I hit 3 drives, all in excess of 270 yards with the most perfect trajectory I've ever seen.   I also had a dispersion of about 15 - 20 yards.    If I could get one for $230 I'd do it in an instant!

Driver: VRS 9.5 degrees

Fairway Wood: 13 degrees
Hybrid: A3 19 degrees

Irons: i20's  Yellow dot

Wedges: Vokey's 52, 56 & 60

Putter: 2 ball

Ball: Penta; ProV

I've been reading a lot of reviews of the R11 and color seems to keep coming up.  I don't understand why people are so hung up on the color?  Hell, I'd play a magenta driver if I hit it well. :P

I feel the same way. Tomorrow I finally get to try an R11 for the first time and I have to admit I'm really excited to try it out. I don't really think the head color will bother me at all.

damnit man I want an R11... If you don't like yours i'll buy it at that price!

I think half the reason that I want it is because of the white non reflective clubhead... it looks extremely sexy. I don't know how people can not like the color of it.
