I used to play baseball and ever since I have taken up golf something that I find myself doing frequently is keeping my weight on my back foot instead of following through on my front foot. Could this be the cause of a bad slice that I sometimes hit off the tee? What other negatives might there be because of keeping my weight on my back foot?

plus many other problems.

Transferring your weight forward is one of the most fundamental and necessary parts of the golf swing.

I would agree with everyone else. Its one of, if not the most important fundamental in golf.  This is how you keep your balance, and if your off balance then your shots can be all over the place.  Slice is very typical, and honestly from that position the ball can go anywhere...so you will never learn from your shots, which is how you teach yourself to play golf. Also understand that your equipment will effect where the ball goes...so don't learn how to golf by watching the ball flight of ill fitted clubs. Make sure you have the correct lie and loft on your irons, and that your giving yourself enough loft on your woods to succeed.

Nope. Common misconception. Hitters are nowhere near 80-90% of their weight on the front foot at impact. More like 50/50 or even 60/40 with the 60 being the weight BACK.

Comparisons to other sports are silly. I could probably argue that the golf swing has more in common with a discus thrower than a baseball swing. Let's not get off-topic and talk about baseball. We've done that already (a few times). ;-)

I hit a nasty slice with only my driver, I hit a nice fade with my irons and 3 wood but when it comes to the driver, ugh..lol. I know what my issues are, just working them out and one of them is not always getting my weight transferred. If I don't get it transferred as I need to it will go as high as my pitching wedge if not higher and slice HARD. So yes, not shifting you weight can be one of the causes amongst other things.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.  
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity. 
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.     
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
