OK so supposing my stock grips are indeed soft enough but they have too many "edges" on them which is causing the hand sores issue, is there any way to soften them up a little?

Or should I just stick to the glove until they're soft?

If you re grip it will cost you a fortune to get them all done and you will not know for sure if the same thing happens.  Generally when ppl order clubs its best to get them customed to what grips you want.  Id personally just stick it out and not complain I never wear a glove.  Even just wear a glove

the grips won't soften with use.  they'll just wear out and get thinner wherever your grip pressure is highest.  what you're experiencing is grip pressure that is WAYYYY too high.  loosen up your grip.  the best advice i can give you as a ten year veteran clubfitter is to learn how to regrip your clubs, experiment with some extremes in size, softness, texture, and tackiness.  regripping your own grips is not that difficult and less expensive than having them done by someone else.  especially if you have an air compressor.  if not then doing some research on the net will reveal some very useful info.

anyone who is experiencing calluses, blisters, or any other grip related issues is likely having to adjust their grip pressure to the grip and not the grip to their optimum grip pressure.

for just about every "name brand" grip there is a "knockoff" that is every bit as good but made to last longer and is cheaper.

Yep, definitely a possibility I'm gripping too much. Also a possibility that my hands aren't used to rough textures as I've only been playing regularly for a year.

I had the same problem with my old clubs, however after playing them for ages I decided to try playing without a glove and it was great. I think I'll repeat that again with these clubs.

I guess in the absence of a method to soften them I'm back to being gloved again.

On the plus side I have a new respect for a store manager who passes-up £100 worth of business to let me know that it's a waste of my money.

£100 to regrip a set? Ouch, that's like $175 USD. It will be very much worth your while to regrip yourself. It costs me about $40 to regrip 12 clubs (I carry 13.)

I am in the same dilemma. I just got a new set of Mizuno JPX-800 Pro irons & MP T-11 wedges and aren't crazy about the grips. I did the Golf Pride grip fitting and it recommended the New Decade Multi-Compound grips. Has anyone played with these? If so, how do you like them and how do they feel? I am starting to play more and more without a glove. Thanks.

Estimated based on £8 UKP per grip for GP Decade Multi-Compound. Who knows, maybe when the time comes I have to re-grip I'll give it a go and see how I get on. It looks easy enough but I'd be worried about not getting them on straight.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
