Completely agree on the bolded portion.

Although it's still not great value to lose half of your cash, having the extra half point is much more effective in a "point" format than it is in a stroke format.  All he needed to do was "push" on 4 of the 5 locations to win at that point.

Robbie's problem going forward, now, is that he will almost always be at a half-point/stroke disadvantage in any elimination challenge, since he is so low on cash.

I think that depends on how future eliminations are done.  Is the bottom money guy always half a point/stroke down?  Could he conceivably go into an elimination challenge with a half stroke advantage?  If so, buying a half a stroke is that much cheaper.  If not, he'll just need to avoid elimination for a few weeks to build his bank back up.

Just watched this weeks episode... man I am glad Justin is gone, what a cocky jerk. He was a sore loser for criticizing robby for taking the stroke even though robby beat him without the stroke, he turned his back to robby while he was making his shot which just seems rude, when shakin robbys hand he didn't even look him in the eye and hardly whispered congrats, and then threw his clubs.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Justin's act was old and tedious halfway through the first episode.  Is anyone really sad that the mouthy douchebag is gone?   Every comment out of him was part of some absurd tough guy act.   Perhaps if he spent less time talking about who needs to be "taken down a peg" he might still be on the show.

Apparently messing with Texas isn't such a big deal.   :)

Good riddance.

Justin certainly was tedious. I lived in Texas for several years, and J's behavior represents the negative side of the Lone Star persona.

But Justin is also a fellow human being, and he and his family have endured a lot of bad breaks the past few years. Check out his bio. Maybe he was just trying to put on a rowdy face to help himself cope with personal doubts and past frustrations.

I don't mind cocky/confident/borderline beligerant players at all but there seemed to be a little 'napoleon' coming out with the texas dude (justin?).  Sometimes the guys that dish out the most trash and attitude on the surface seem to have to biggest egos are actually the nicest and most supportive friends you'll have after you get to know them (I wouldn't put justin in that category as I don't know him personally but just in general).   The canuk guy with the glasses is beyond cocky and is just rude, he needs a serious filter.  Someone should have taken him aside and reminded him that all this stuff is going to be on TV and he should cool try to keep it more positive.

...but what fun would that be?  :)

Still hate the "buy an extra half stroke/point" option.  Too many gimmicks.  Play golf.  Congrats on a good run, Russell.  You gave it a go.  I'm sure there's lots more golf in your future.  Good luck.

Agreed.  hated to see you go against that kid as well...he's likeable.  Stay well, secure the perimeter and take care of those troops, come home safely.

Man, David is pretty damn solid. That shot he put on the green from 180 was money. Oren was lucky to get out of his match - hitting driver after David went in the bunker was nuts.

I'm loving Robbie more and more. That skull across the green was just like me!

It wasn't boneheaded, it was non-committal. Russell didn't know he was in the lead. He had already hit the "3" during the round, and hitting it again would have given him 21. However, he made a tentative swing, and he busted.

I have to say it was a boneheaded move - he had 18 - the game was blackjack - you do not hit on 18 in blackjack - the fact is Shank got into his head with that performance imitating Carls bluffing job.  He just wasn't using his head on that one - he also did not play good golf throughout the whole show so I also have to say that he deserved to be the one to go based on the golfers left.  He talked a good game but was not able to back it up on the course.

It was the wrong move, but not boneheaded.  It was the predictable move because I think most golfers going 2nd in the order would try to put up a big number, since they don't know what the other guy scored.  In fact, that's why I was urging Shank to hold at 15: if he busts he has no chance at winning, but there is always the chance that the 2nd golfer busts.

Anyway, Carl played really well and I actually like the short Canadian so I was happy to see him survive.  But with these guys now starting to shell out big cash to get half-stroke advantages, it means people like Kent & Will are going to have even more pronounced leads as we get further along into the show.  Maybe that is why they introduce some mystery envelope that has Will flustered next week?  Otherwise those big money guys can simply sit on their cash.

A few things,

1) I feel like shank is a little bit more irresponsible and stupid than he is funny. It was entertaining at first to see his carefree attitude but forgetting your three wood and putter for a major TV series is ridiculous.

2) Kent seems by far the best one on this show. I don't necessarily like his attitude, but I think that it's being backed up by his flawless play so far.

3) Russel, sorry to see you go man, I hate when you see two of your favorite players in the elimination challenge. I think that for blackjack it would have been smarter just to play it like you would in a casino and going by the book. No looking at your opponent or at the bench.

4) I like David and I think he has the game, but I think his mental game is a little bit fragile, probably because of his inexperience.

Just my thoughts for what it's worth

Shank is not that bright, the bluff would have been acting excited at hitting the 5 to make it appear he had a good hand.  His bluff seemed to be he was not sure it he should take another shot---a weak hand.  Not sure what the guy was doing hitting 18 after the weak bluff.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
