Maybe this is like asking how orange is a triangle, but I thought this was an odd combination.... Why would someone be so ranked so high in ballstriking, but so low in smash factor? My first guess would be he plays a soft spinny ball. That tends to straighten out shots, but gives lower ball speeds. I'm sure he hits the center of the face as much as anybody on tour right? One thing I noticed is that the guys at the top of the smash factor list are pretty short hitters.  I guess it gets harder and harder to have a higher ball speed as the clubhead speed gets faster....

Shorter hitters got better smash factor because it's easier to hit the ball in the middle of the sweetspot with a slower swing.

How do they define ballstriking by the way? Where is this statistic?

Boo Weekley's smash factor is 1.468, Jum Furyk tops the table with 1.488. A 0.02 difference is not a lot.

Smash factor is about where you hit the ball on the clubface. It doesn't say anything about accuracy really. These guys hit it so close to pure that a little deviation from the sweetspot won't affect the ball flight too much.
