Hey everyone...

I just came upon Shawn's video's this week and have been trying to implement his techniques over the last couple of days.

I've not had any lessons, it shows,,,,I just watch and try to feel my way. Five years in to this game and I have days that I'm on fire and shoot low mid 70's and days that I can barely hit the ball. Due to the fact, at least I think, that I was always hitting the ball instead of letting the club do the work. (too much manipulation)

My problem in trying to implement Shawn's technique is staying in my stance...and related to that is knee pain afterwards. Hyperextension or I'm just not flexible

I have attached a video that shows my first couple of swings the day after studying Shawns video. Then at the end a slow motion video of where I ended the day.

You'll notice my poor balance when trying to "throw the club to the target" in my initial swings...

Not sure what questions to ask here but hope for a little feedback on what I should do next.

thanks,

Adam

Sorry, this is no help but Lol! I used to watch the clemshaw videos too and also did the same knee move before my swing.

Now I just set my hips further over my left foot and dont do the knee move.

Take a look in your video at your left hip.  Watch how far it moves to the viewer's left during the backswing.  At the top of the backswing, note the line from that left hip up to the head.  See how that line points to the viewer's right as you follow it up.

That's a problem.  A good swing will have that line (the spine angle, as viewed from face on) stay roughly consistent throughout the backswing.  This is sometimes referred to as remaining "stacked".  The pelvis, while rotating through the backswing, has not moved off the ball laterally, and the torso and head remain "stacked" on top of the pelvis.  While it's part of the name, this is not really a stack & tilt thing; it's a golf swing thing.  This is one of many examples of S&T; has applying new terminology to tried and true swing fundamentals.

Work on it in front of a mirror.  Put the mirror where the camera is, and you'll be able to look up and check yourself at the top of the backswing, and get instant feedback.  Do that until you figure out what it feels like to maintain that angle properly.  Then learn to hit balls with your new improved backswing.  You'll benefit in many ways.

Guys I just want to get some opinions on what you see.  I "think" i see.

  • A slightly below plane takeaway
  • over rotation of the hips

I'm seeing a lot of shots missed to the right and a few cuts or slices thrown in.  These videos represent some changes from that swing to attempt to get back on track but I want some more opinions.

thanks for the time,

Adam

Yes i think i was a bit.  I just got back from a range session on the foresight.  I think my main issue stemmed from poor takeaway.  Started rotating my hips less to get more torque and keep myself on plane and it seemed to work.  Kept thing more compact and powerfull....Once i got warmed up anyway ;)

Now I just have to get the hang of it i think to bring the dispersion down.

My buddy has one of these so I play on it alot.  Your distances are insane for your swing / ball speed.  Your spin numbers are really good and your launch seems to be very good around 10-11.  The roll you are getting is a little more than you would ever see outside I'm sure.  You can adjust it on there I usually always put it on soft because of that.  Ball could cause more spin and would increase launch why degree driver you playing?  You could go up a degree to help the launch.

Thanks for the reply.  I guess I've heard mixed information on how high the launch should be but there is some controversy on carry vs roll so what do I expect.

For you questions.

I have an 8.5 ping ans er turned up to a 9 degree loft.  I agree with you on the roll out and I wasn't aware you could adjust that on the system. I bet they have it on fast so everyone thinks they are doing better than they ever will here in Kansas.  We have zoysia fairways mostly and they don't give u a ton of roll as you may well know.  I suppose i could also open the face a bit,,,as you can see i favored a draw bordering on a hook it this trial today.

Have you ever switched balls when using your friend's system,,if so how much difference did it make if any that was appreciable?  The guy at golfsmith said these things are very accurate ...has that been your experience going from the LM to the course?

thanks

Adam

Yea different balls register different spin numbers on his.  I play a pretty high spin ball with the nike one tour.  I lose a couple yards with it with the driver it seems but, not alot.  Your spin is really good better than mine so I would work on getting a little more loft.  My ballspeed is 160 and my carry is around 270 with roll it goes about 290 on his but, I put it on soft conditions. I think if you could go up to a 10.5 you could get around 11-12 degree launch with your low spin should be very good.

Yes ..of course i spin the heck out of a 10.5...I hit a 9.5 with the diamans ahina shaft when i chose this club, which also has the ahina, and it had a 14- 16 degree launch.

i guess my first step would be to just to tee up a bit and swing up a bit more.  Good to know on the balls.  I play the nike one tour a occasionally myself.  They test at almost the same spin rate as the  prov1 so thats good to know.

Your numbers are "similar" to what i was getting before i went down to the 8.5 degree...a lot more carry, less roll out, and it got up there really high with the loft and even more because of the increased backspin and it was heavily affected by the kansas wind which i hate btw.

thanks again for your time,

Hittem straight!

The only thing I noticed was that it seems you start your downswing more with your arms, which might cause a fade. Not sure if my observation is correct, but it might help to try and start with the hips more.

Hey guys been working on the swing a lot over the past few months.

believe it or not i could score ok with the old swing on the right but it was inconsistent at best...always been saved by approach and short game. my miss was  a cut or slice...now its the other way a round and I much prefer it.

New swing allows me to hit consistent draw shots with better distance and control.  I just want to make sure i'm not grooving in another issue somewhere.

The new swing is on the left...the forward press is deceiving because i'm hitting in deep grass so i set the club up a few inches behind the balls sized disc i am swinging at.

Anyway I think it looks better but i had a guy say i had too much spine tilt...I'm not sure he knows what he is talking about so i thought id get some more opinions on the matter.

thanks for the time

Adam

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
