Anyone know where I can get a cheap set of blade irons 3-PW?  Does not need to be a certain brand or anything just looking for a cheap set to try out.  Going to use them as my after work 9 holes play around clubs until I get used to using them and move up to a good set.  Thanks for any inputs.

I see a lot of used blades at Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy, but they are usually pretty beat up.  You might also check out eBay, ask for pictures of the PW and 7i, they usually take the worst beating.  Also ask for pictures of the top line, they get pretty dinged up and can be a distraction when looking at the club at address.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

If it's just a set to goof around with, try thrift shops. You might not get the full set (they're often missing at least one of the short irons) but who cares?!?

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

Also try Play-It-Again sports.  They've usually got a bunch of older clubs around here for < $80 for a set.  Haven't paid attention to whether they're blades or not, though.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

My favourite 2 iron blade forged. I like it because I can hit hook, slice and stringer lower.  punch hit shot!!

A 2 iron cast is forgiving mishit!!

Our local PIAS is okay as far as quality, but they want a bit too much for their stuff because they're still trying to make a decent profit. But at least they don't carry any junky sets.

I'm getting random segments of this post printed on T-shirts.

Yeah, you could probably find some GREAT deals for a set of Blades at Pawn Shops or Garage Sales...

These aren't 'blades' but you'll certainly know when you do and don't hit them:

Picking up something from many decades past with strange loft/lie/length, old shafts and grips may be less helpful than a more modern players club.  That is not to say I subscribe to the idea that practicing with a muscleback is a valid improvement strategy to begin with.

Yeah.. mine is hit or miss.  I've had a couple decent deals there, but those only really happen on older equipment that they're trying to get rid of.  I go in every couple months out of boredom just in case, though.

Whenever I describe the perfect compromise between forged GI irons and forged blades, including user friendly grinds, I'm describing the TA3s. Mine don't look as good as the ones in that ad, but they were still worth every penny ($70).

Yep.  I keep convincing myself that I don't need a set, only to arrive at eBay again scouting for a deal.  It seems like a unique club, hard to fine a forged cavity that looks better regardless of price.

How do you like them?

I have a couple sets sitting in the basement...

Wood brothers that are blue printed perfect for $150

an old set of Power built scotch blades in great condition for $75  Need grips though.

I looked off and on for a few months and found a couple sets in Quebec in good shape. I liked the TA1s so much (easiest to hit blades I've ever owned) that I was really curious what the GI version would be like. They have a somewhat unique look and feel (there's a KZG iron that could be their twin) and play like a blade (a club stronger though) except much easier to hit. I'm getting over the self-imposed exile from cavity backs and so far I've worked the 3-5 irons into my TA1 set. At least while the course is wet.

Ping Gorged Glide Wedges - 50, 54, 58

What an amazing game this is.

1980's Titleist Tour Models or Wilson Staff Fluid Feel blades can be had in good shape dirt-cheap.  Ebay, Craigslist, or used at your local golf shop.  I'm especially fond of the Wilson Staff Fluid Feels, my set was purchased for $39 and only needed new grips (total cost $72).

So you're looking for a "cheap set" to use as your " after work 9 holes play around clubs" until you "move up to a good set" eh? O.k……doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me but I wish you the best. BTW, not all blades are (or were) created equal….far from it in fact. Besides, you should be more interested in finding a set with a shaft that matches your swing.

Anyway to answer your original question try craigslist or garage sales.

    • Day 21 - Good session with driver and 6i. Hitting real golf balls is quite a bit different from the foam balls, still getting used to that change.
    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
    • Day 4: 3/26/25 Par4Success workout followed by putting through 50 mm gates.
    • Day 249: did a stack putting session and then worked on 5 foot putts for a bit.
