I wanted to go one day to the John Deere Classic this year because its only an hour from my place and it starts in 2 weeks.Ive never been to a pga tour event and I was wondering what would be a good day to go thurs-sun? I was thinking sun at first because thats when the tournament is won but then I would miss alot of people that didnt make the cut. So just looking for some advice on a good day to go and any other pointers of what I should do while Im there.

I've been to a handful of PGA events in Michigan. I've yet to go on the weekend, but have been to Thurs. and Fri. rounds as well as a few Tuesday practice rounds. I actually enjoyed the practice rounds most. They are not as crowded, and it seems easier to bounce around from location to location. Definitely spend some time at the practice tee, it's a great way to see a bunch of pros at once and watch them hit shot after shot dead solid perfect. Whatever day you go, you'll be amazed at how much better the pros are when you are watching it live, even HiDef TV can't do them justice.

The Travelers is in Ct. right now, We went last year (1st time) on Friday. But this year due to scheduling we went on Tuesday. As mentioned above the difference in crowd size was tremendous, but also most of the on course concession stands weren't open either, so we could only get water/ lunch at the turn.

My best advice is walk the course backwards, as you will see the many different players and not tend to follow one or two groups. This year we past Vejay Singe, Charlie Wi, and John Daly's groups on the front 9. And luck would have it we found a great vantage point to watch these three groups play in on the 16th, 17th and 18th, we sat in the empty skybox, next to the TV camera tower...

Enjoy, it's a great experiance.

I don't have any advice for you in regard to your question, but I just wanted to share that I'm extremely jealous.  I grew up in Rock Island, just a short drive from Deere Run, but I unfortunately was never able to attend the John Deere Classic before moving away after high school.  Beautiful course and a beautiful area.  I certainly miss it.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
