Buckle, is that your name or like what you do under pressure? The youngsters can't get it done again. The "young Gun" phenomenon seems to crumble down the stretch when it counts. What do you think?

You are absolutely right! I was telling my son before Tiger got to #9 that Buckle and Quinney would double bogey, Tiger would birdie, get in the lead and it would all be over. I am getting bored with this scenario every Tiger tournament. There isn't anyone that can come through on Sunday to give Tiger a run for his money. We haven't seen anyone since Bob May at Valhalla. Now, that guy put on a real full court press against Tiger. I watch replays of the 2000 PGA on the Golf Channel and am still impressed with what Bob May did. It's too bad he's currently struggling.

Yep,
I agree with you.
The younger players are emerging but they are not leaving their marks!

It was pretty premonitory the answer Buckle gave to the press when he was asked his opinion on the fact that he was not going to play with Tiger Woods.

This shows how much they fear him.

IMO, we still need to wait for the "one" who is going to battle Tiger.

It's a matter of "cojones", "balls'!

Andrew Buckled like everyone else always buckles . . . anyone know how to Monday qualify for a PGA event . . . I want to get in there and take Tiger down. It's downright pathetic what takes place every week, I'm sick of it.

And Tiger seems to get every lucky bounce, rips his drive into trees or an iron into a gallery, always has a good shot, needs a kick to stay out of the rough, no problem ends up in the middle of the fairway, always happens that way.

Hits his wedge on 18 way short, it spins back and heading to the water . . . nope, catches up on some heavy fringe. Does he have to be so good and get all the luck too?

Buckle gets close to winning then starts spraying drivers into the iceplant, Quinney can't get out of bunkers.

I'll tell you one guy that wouldn't fall apart, Lee Trevino, he would have stomped Tiger the way he did Jack. He could care less about Tigers mystique. But where is that type of guy now, nowhere, everyone is whipped.

You are going to be waiting a long while for the "one" that will challenge Tiger.

He's arguably the best player ever, it isn't reasonable to expect that he's going to have a serious challenger. And especially from these 2nd tier guys - they only get in contention a couple times per year, they have no idea how to close the deal.

I remember Sergio basically mocking Tiger in a tourney as he was beating him. I don't remember what tourney it was but I'm sure someone here does. I don't even remember who won in the end, it was probably Tiger.

And now Sergio struggles every year. **sigh**

That was in the PGA Championship back when Sergio was 19 (I think). He had birdied a par 3 while Tiger was standing back on the tee and he pumped his fist at him.

Like you said though, Tiger still won - and Sergio has never come that close again.

I'd have to say that Andrew Buckle has done very very well this year so far. This is his first full year playing the big tour and so far he has played 3 events and made 3 cuts, racking up 2 top 25's and 1 top 10. Add to that being 9th on the scoring list and it's not a bad result for the first 3 tournaments.

Sure it's going to take him a while to learn how to deal with closing out big tournaments, but so far he is doing the right thing and putting himself in positions he can learn from. He's not going to learn much by coming down the stretch needing a few birdies to finish T55, but he is going to learn a lot by being in contention for the lead.

If he starts having to scrounge around to make cuts or keep his card then I'll begin to worry, at the moment though I think he is doing very very well and I expect to begin seeing bigger things from further down the track.

    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.
