  1. 1. How Will Masters Be Affected By Rain?

    • The Rough Will Be Too Tough
      1
    • The Greens Will Be Too Soft
      0
    • It Will All Equal Out In The End

With the rain once again being a factor on the PGA Tour this season, will it really affect the Masters scoring?

Will the wetter rough only get thicker and be tough for the big bombers? Will the soft greens be just what the players are wanting?

I'm not real sure, but I would like to hear some opinions here. So feel free to give your take on how you think the rain will affect the scoring and also what the winning score will be..

My concern with the rain is twofold: the 40 yards of roll players get on some holes - almost need on some holes - won't be as prevalent. But that hasn't affected things much in the past.

And also the greens. A lot of Augusta's greens are receptive to shots played away from the flag that then roll down into a hollow and collect near the pin. If the green soften up and if they slow down a tad, they my not roll. Players may have long putts into the hollows.

I dont think the rain wont make a bunch of difference.Winning score will be -15 (its never been a winning score before) i reckon and Eldrick will be enscribed on the trophy once more......

The term rough is relative - i think "rougher-rough" might be a better term, especially when contrasting it to the Open at Carnoustie a few years ago,or any US Open for instance.Even if they are hitting a club or so more in for 2nd shots surely the better golfers would want to rely on target golf more than some of the Mickey Mouse type run after the ball lands, massive snaking putts, and balls screwing back off greens and running 60 yards down fairways back towards them (Greg Norman 9th anyone ?)

Does the Masters really have many greens that have collecting-areas iacas ? I cant believe a major championship is decided by too many greens like this ?
Even if it does - its a two-way thing if they put the pins in a different position - a-la pin top right on 16 for instance compared to middle left....

I think its going to be a stunning opening Major for the year and i hope all of the big 4/5 play well and are up there contesting for it.

Im gonna hang up my "dont disturb till Monday" sign and retire to the TV.

Enjoy it chaps and chapesses

It seems like the tour players always score better when its wet. I think the greens are the teeth of Augusta and soft greens will make it play easier. Most players hit it so far nowadays that course length is overrated.

By the way, David Duval is -2 after 6 holes. That may not sound like much since he hasn't played very many holes, but he is usually in last place after playing 6 holes these days.

Can you imagine the fan support this guy would get if he stayed near the top of the leaderboard? That would make for an even better week than it's already going to be.

I have a screenshot showing him atop the leaderboard. He finished, what, +3?
