GPS trackers for elderly, children, golf clubs

Does anyone know anything about GPS Trackers that I could keep in my golf bag, or give to an elderly parent or small children to keep track of their position.

I started to do that before I posted here.  What nobody tells you in the big print is what I am interested in.  Things like the unit costs 300 dollars and the monthly service cost is $50 for a total of $900 a year. Theft insurance is a whole lot cheaper.  The units are as big as a cell phone and don't guarantee how long they will hold a charge.

A friend of mine had his new pickup stolen, and the police wouldn't follow it.

In another situation a relative of mine was running a chop shop for the State police to sting thieves and the government didn't want to have anything blow the operation.

My local bank wouldn't call the police when a juvenile criminal tried to cash stolen business checks they just refused to cash the checks.  Reason - the manager stated that the bank had to be represented by legal counsel and typical legal costs for the bank to go to court would start at $10,000.00 and go up.

Well, that all seems understandable and totally related to your GPS dilema. What is the going rate for theft insurance on a small child or elderly person in your area?

I used the examples around theft, not lost children and elderly.

Going on to children and elderly, how do I keep a unit the size of a medium or large cell phone on a mobile small child.  Or keep those large units on an elderly person who has trouble losing their false teeth?  Its not like it was wrist watch size.  How about keeping it charged?  Is it water proof?  how does it handle being dropped or thrown?  Look how big the ankle units are for people under court supervision.  Put that on a 3 year old.

What I see being used on NCIS and Covert Affairs, and spy movies doesn't seem to be available - if they are real.  I know the units on cars work, but they are not workable  for people.

I am not interested in what looks good in theory, but how it works in practice.

Sorry, in Canada they don't put 3-year olds under house arrest, so I have non point of reference. Is NCIS a TV show? I do know they don't have a mass spec that can identify the manufacturing source of acetone found on bone scrapings, but that doesn't prevent CSI from showing it as a fact.

I was considering a gps tracker for in my bag when I had to leave my bag in club racks when at resorts etc.

If it's close proximity you might consider RFID technology, that's why I asked how golf was related.  RFID has limited range but would probably cover the distance from the club racks to the 19th hole.

I'd guess there are more effective GPS type solutions, but as you found, they aren't small or cheap - smallest is probably size of a wrist watch currently that I've seen available to the public.

You should like in Sky Mall or something, I'm sure they have short-range devices that track kids around playgrounds and such.
