Hello Erik,

I came back from the course and hit the range after. I've been hitting most of my fairway shots and with a lot of straight and draw shots too.

I noticed that I barely touch my mid irons and only used my Hybrids on par 5s or Wedges on Par 4s after the tee shots.

But I have been using my arms to swing though as I was told.

But here are 7 Videos of my swing which I tried to keep my head at the same place plus tried to power my left leg. I also changed the way my hand / shaft position is to the ball starting the final 3 videos.

Here they are and I appreciate it. I think that the final 3 videos are my best swing as the ball flight seems best too.

Note: I noticed that I tend to "lift" my arms up on follow through causing me to very slightly chicken wing? Or am I wrong? I've been trying to rotate through with left biceps attached to side...

PS: I can't stop the frame to see if I still sway forward with my head etc.

Looks good, but at setup, your ass and hips are forward and your back is arched away from the ball ( ie. you're leaning back ( to your right side ) )

Oh, so it wasn't a sonic boom that I created to cause the rope to move? j/k


If you hit in 307 yards, then imagine how far you would hit it if you actually had more lag. If you look at :04 seconds your club should almost be pointed90 degrees or close to it. It looks like you are casting the club. But I do not have that high dollar software, and if I did it still would not help. Just giving you my 2 cents...

I agree with this guy, but it would really help to have a video that is shot is a high FPS.

The yellow and teal lines are the position on your left arm and clubhead before impact and at/just after impact.  Because cameras read top to bottom as they capture, the OP may be generating more lag than is shown in the capture above.  With that said, holding the wrist hinge later into impact will help with distance as well as reduce the tendency for hooks and pulls that can result from an early release.

Looks like your are working on getting your hips through the ball.  Nice!  The pull/hook came from a shot where the hips got lazy and the hands took over.  Looks like the most solid drives had a good amount of lower body translation toward the target.

Other thoughts would be to shorten the backswing.  Allowing the wrists to break down and the club to dip past parallel doesn't add any distance or speed, and in some cases can work to reduce extension from the ball.

Also a down the line video would help iacas and others to have more to go on, plus iron swings.

1. Unfortunately, I can only borrow my friend's iPhone V1 to capture this =\   ..  I'm rather poor

2. Hmmm honestly, all I was trying to do is keep my head at the same position. I didn't think of my hips, rather try to use my left leg to power the swing.

And as you said, I have been using too much upper body =\ and I'm trying to rid of that.

3. Yes, I noticed that back swing over parallel... I'm quite flexible and that felt as if I didn't do enough of a back swing... will work on that later.

Right now just want to focus on keeping head on position and rotating with my hips on follow through as Iacas advised me in my hip slide vs hip bump thread.

Oh, if one day I manage to get more lag, is the distance going to be a big difference or is it going to be just like 10-15 yds?

Ok man, here is a good visualization for you. I wish I had the capabilities of putting all those cool colored lines because it would make it much easier to understand. But keep in mind that I am no teacher, but you are very close to demonstrating what ALL good players demonstrate at impact. Follow this and it is real simple: If you are looking at your impact position above, imagine if your left shoulder (remember we are looking at the picture) was about 2-3 inches back, then you would have a beautiful reverse C and all would be well with the world! Does this make sense?

In my opinion by getting your rear leg straighter it will push your hips farther forward which will keep your rear shoulder back 2-3 inches from where it is currently. Kinda like the guy in the picture below... There is a very good possibility that I could be all wrong, but it's worth a shot...

Oh really? You think I'm almost there? That's nice to know.   in about 3 weeks time ( end of month ish) will be my 1st year anniversary playing golf, so I definitely would like to have

this under the belt.

Yes, I think it makes sense... problem is finding the right trigger for me. whenever I try to have my head back like that and my body bowed, I ended up

hitting it extremely fat and not even hitting the ball. Actually Erik told me the same thing about straightening my right leg more too.

I can't wait for Erik's opinion on my driver swing... it "feels" as if my head is still moving forward, just not as much as a few days ago when he gave me the first diagnostics.

Oh, once I get a clearer picture with my driving and it gets a lot better, my next project is my irons, so I'll post those when I'm ready to move on to it.

GARH! I tried that reverse C and try to make my head stay 100%.... all shots = fat

And if I straighten my legs more, I top the ball.


Erik, I can't seem to keep my head behind the ball further.

It still moved and I can't seem to get to that perfect impact position and posture...

The videos I showed you in this thread is the best I have been in so far.

This is frustrating!

Can you give me an advice?

Is the ball placement in this vid about right? Or is it too much centered for most of us?

I'm just wondering since it feels like my ball is too much forward on my driver...

That's not a true face-on view. It's making the ball look farther back than it is.

Make some practice swings (no club) with your head leaning against a wall. You can create the "hips forward" of your head one of two ways: your hips can GO forward or your head can go backwards. Only one really works very well.

Well, I have decided to go with my personal ball placement that feels right to me. That has fixed most of the problems.

Now I met a Tour pro the other day and he offered to advise me, which I accepted and he ended up teaching me for 20 minutes.

The one thing he changed on me is my trigger finger pressure and placement. Plus he told me to gradually add more and more lag / hand closer to left thigh

on impact. And he told me to keep practicing with 7i only at the range.

So today I had the chance to go to the range and applied the trigger finger pressure. The result out of 40 balls

is that I made a decently sized rectangular divot. My driving has also improved as I now manage to feel more consistent squaring off club face.

Now the question is... if I hit my irons right everytime, should the divot size increase as in, it adds up little by little

or should I have been able to put the ball at the exact same place and make the divot at the exact same spot, thus through out however many balls,

the divot is only about the size of a dollar bill?

I'm going to post my iron shot video for you to see, Eric, when I go to the range again next.


I managed to get someone to tape me again, here they are:

The range this time is not flat, I think it has like a 30 degree angle upwards. I put the distances from the video based on the marker

on the range, so I'm not sure if I'm just a bit tired thus lost some distance or if it's that 30 degree angle of the range.

Iron used: MP68 7i

Distance around 175yds + inc roll. Carry was around 155-160 I think

Driver: R11 TP

Distance around 280yds+ inc roll. Carry was around 250-260yds. All approximate.

Lastly, the above are my divots after around 20 balls. Starting from right to left.

So 2 days ago I changed my right hand grip and #3PP has been allowing me to square the club face much more often.

But when I try to push / straighten my right arm, I ended up hooking the ball.

Another thing I'm trying to work on is my lag. I'm not sure if I have enough lag on both the videos?

Please advice.

PS: I know my head moves down on top of back swing and jets straight up on down swing.... didn't feel it at all.

    • Day 329 - More full swings, focusing on the finish. Started with half swings, finished with full swings.
    • Day 146: mirror work again. Working on the same backswing stuff. 
    • Didn’t get back to a decent routine in November and December as planned.  I really need to get up earlier and get to the 7 am CrossFit class… but I’m too tired. Right now getting in 3 times a week. Going to get some swing speed exercises in too.  January-April should be Monday - Friday, load up on supplements too.
    • “The stuff legends are made of…” 😁 As long as OEM’s keep replacing them…. But if it cracks 2 years in, you’re screwed on the warranty. the Cobra Dark Speed driver gets rave reviews.  Haven’t heard of breakage issues.  Taylormade now came out with the Qi35 heads.  Absolutely stunning but it’s a carbon fiber sole as well as the face and crown.  I guess we’ll see.
