Looking at a forged set of the Howson/Hippo line of clubs.  These are from G.B. but can't find any sort of review on them.  thanks for any help

Hippo makes great drivers, never swung one of their Irons before though. Their drivers are probably some of the best clubs no one has ever heard of. I have heard however their wedges are a bit on the "they get the job done but nothing special" side of things. Never heard or seen an Iron set from Hippo before though.

Yes I'm Aware That's 16 Clubs!

Thanks for the info.  The Howson are a small off shoot of HIPPO golf for the European's.  Just bought a set of c.b.'s instead of the forged for 39 bucks, nib.  Had to pay shipping though.  I figure for the price of a round of golf I bought a new set of clubs!  Might scarf the forged cb's too cause they are cheap too.  thanks man

I just bought a set of Hippo Pro Forged irons. Look great and feel even better. Have only hit them on range though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=220805180492&ssPageName;=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I have a Hippo set. I started playing with a yard sale set and decided to get the Hippos because I wanted the whole package. I'm fairly new to the golf world but I'm fairly certain that they are more of a beginner's club. The irons are over sized. The bag is pretty wicked awesome compared to what I've seen in big names. Every time I play with new people they ALWAYS comment on the driver. Its as big as anything on the shelf and it hits long. The 3 wood is the same way along with the 3 and 4 hybrids. The putter completely sucks and the pitching wedge has left me cussing its very existence (probably more my fault). I became a little intimidated on the links because of the name Hippo and the hippo logo (more like a pig) on the bag, but to my surprise some of the older gentlemen said they used to swing Hippos and had good things to say. I have noticed a lot of high nosed folks out there who don't take you serious if you have a hippo on the bag. I'm in the process of putting together a set. I've swapped out the irons with a set of Titleist that are smaller faced but have improved my game so much the choice was easy. I'm salivating over the TM Superfast2.0 and it will be in my bag before long. The putter was the first thing I swapped, its an Odyssey now and I'm planning on putting it all in the new Maxfli Tour stand bag at Dick's. I thought about selling the Hippos but my son who is falling in love with playing now seemed excited about getting them so that's an easy choice as well. If I had it to do over I would probably not get the Hippos. If your inquiring about just the irons, mine look like the new stuff out there but I would recommend something that has better reviews. Save the money and invest it in better. In my humble opinion :)

Have played a couple of rounds with the Howson cb's.  These have reg. flex graphite shafts.  Well the irons play well.  Very thin or narrow soled irons just like the GCD's I have.  Matter of fact the edges to the irons feel sharp so even on hard fairways' they can dig in to take a divot.  I also notice that they aren't that forgiving on mishits, typical more so of blade type irons than you would think cb's are.  I also notice that you have to be a decent striker of the ball to make the irons work for you.  Definitely not a beginners set by an stretch cb or not.  They are also very well put together and don't look cheap or inexpensive in any way and the s.s. used is pretty soft. Typical of blade type iron the sweet spot it seems is about 3/8" or so off the hosel.

After thinning a few and looking at the ball mark I started to crowd the ball a bit so it is positioned almost on the hosel.  Voila, nice solid contact with a very nice feel when the ball is hit on the sweet spot.  The longer irons have a bit more forgiveness than the short irons 7-pw.  Hey for 35 bucks plus shipping with as near as I can tell a high quality graphite shaft they are a bargain and I like them.  Especially the soles, nice and narrow with a very sharp leading edge, almost knife like and I ain't kidding.  I mean you aren't going to cut yourself on them but still blade like to the max.  thanks

You should post up some pictures of them.

I set up a 'el cheapo' bag to leave at my grandmother's place when I visit.  I got a set of Hippo wedges off rockbottomgolf, and the wedges have been great --- zero complaints. (The $29 driver, on the other hand...)

I'll try and get a pic up of them.  Truthfully for the bucks spent and even if they were much more they are damn good irons.  I bought a set of Founders Club Standard Royals off the bay, might have been from the vendor, again for 35 bucks plus shipping, it may even have been 25 bucks and shipping cause no one bid on them.  Firm flex graphite shafts and like the Howson's damn fine clubs.  A players club to be sure but just excellent sticks.  thanks

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
