PS - My wife is extremely understanding and has given me pretty much everything I've asked for in golf and otherwise, so... my post was a joke (maybe).

As far as playing, my wife used to scoff whenever I wanted to play until my youngest took an interest.  Then it was, "you guys should go play".  It's been great because now my son is a 3 hcp and we have a blast playing.  Unfortunately, he is leaving for college this fall.  As far as equipment, that's another story.  I played the same clubs for almost 16 years and when I started making some changes, she would give me a hard time about all the money I was spending.  I can well afford it but she acts like I am bankrupting us.  I am not like the guys I see all around me who get the latest and greatest sticks every year or two.

My wife and I play together so I guess that makes her understanding

During the week she will remind me to make a tee time for the weekend-she's just as addicted as I am!

She does not need to know what I spend on equipment ...lol ! I don't change my clubs frequently . So I m still okay .

My wife makes a deal: I get a new club, I get her  a new handbag. Doesn't take long to figure out a second hand USD60 Hi Bore XLS driver can't compare with a USD800 Chloe Tote Bag.

As far as playing, my wife plays 5-6 days a week so there is never a problem with me playing. Clubwise, we both get a club if we want. It's a good understanding we have. The best thing I could have done was get my wife into golf.

My only problem with golf is that I am usually standing too close to the ball............ after I hit it.

my gf just bought me 'supplies' for my club championship this weekend...balls, tees, new glove, towel, etc...she supports my addiction but she lets me know if i'm gettin out of hand...(we're not married, she's my fiancee)

In my Titleist 2014 9.5" Staff bag:

Reading everyone's comments about their supportive spouses reminds me that I also feel truly lucky.   My wife does not play golf, but she is amazingly supportive of my addiction:

  • She gladly watches tournaments with me, and in fact will watch by herself when I'm not there
  • Pushed last year for us to go to Pebble for the Open when she heard it was there (all her idea - I wasn't planning on even asking), and then also pushed for us to get full week tickets with Lodge access and other perks to better enjoy the week
  • Has never grumbled once when I get new clubs or any other golf expense, and in fact every once in awhile suggests perhaps I should get another set when she sees an ad on TV.   And it is never a quid pro quo thing where I get new clubs and she spends an equivalent amount on something else - she never asks to get anything pricey herself in return
  • If I get home from work at a reasonable time she asks why didn't I stop by the range and practice a bit, saying she wouldn't mind and that we can always have dinner later
  • She frequently tells me I need to play golf on the weekends so she can have the house to herself and get some work done.   This weekend she suggested I go play both days and even play 36 a day if I want because she's really backed up with work.
  • When she hears about a charity tournament somewhere on some nice course, she tells me I should go enter.    When I say something like "But the entry fee is $1000" she responds "So?"       I even caught her once doing some Google searching to find out how to get me into the pro-ams at the Tour stops here in San Diego and LA.
  • For HER 50th birthday a couple years ago, she suggested we go stay at the Pebble Beach Lodge and that I play all the courses while there.    And then the real kicker was a couple days before our trip she insisted I play Spanish Bay (which I was going to skip) on the day after we arrived and that she'd take the day to visit her mother in the Bay area, letting me play another nice course and NOT have to visit my mother-in-law (that's a combo that's almost better than winning the lottery!)

I really don't know why she's so supportive about my golf - she's almost pushy about it - but I feel truly lucky!   I think the lack of guilt on my part in playing and practicing a lot the last few years is a big reason I've been able to improve a lot.      Wow, just writing all this makes me think I better buy some flowers on the way home tonight and take her out for a nice dinner......

I really need to get my fiance into golf. She doesn't really care when I go, but often calls me like 2 hours into my 18 hole round to ask if I'm almost done. I just laugh and remind her that it's usually a 4 hour ordeal. I've been going with my dad once/twice a week so she is pretty understanding. Usually she will get her full day on the weekend to do whatever it is that she wants to do. My 8 hours golfing means 12 hours+ at the mall, Bed Bath & Beyond, or Bath & Body Works! lol

My wife doesn't have a problem most of the time...  Sometimes she thinks I play too much, but I can usually tell if she needs me to stick around the house to help out with things.  I play with my brother so she sees it as bonding time.  We just got married last month so she knew what she was in for.  I am sure things will change when we have kids, but that is a few years away.

She did want to go with me last weekend (I was playing by myself).  She did doesn't play, she just wanted to get out of the house.  She just sat in the cart and read her book.  It was kind of nice because she kept score for me and tracked my stats as we went along.  Plus, I holed out from a green side bunker for birdie while she was there.  I stood in the bunker and made her get out of the cart to look in the hole.  She wouldn't believe me if she didn't see it with her own eyes.

    • Impressive! I practice these shots along with my putting on most days. Would love to see where my spin numbers are! On the course this method has dramatically changed the way I think about chipping.

    • Last couple sessions I’ve felt good. I’ve managed to PB on almost every different weight I’ve used except the 195g which most will know is the weight used to identify driver eSpeed. i have noticed a very slight increase however in my 195g ‘Full Swing’ whereas my ‘Max Swing’ has been stuck at 102mph last few sessions. I do feel like I have quicker in me. My target at the start would have been to get to 105mph giving an eSpeed of 115mph. With around 50% or so of the foundations programme left I think this is definitely achievable
