Since yesterday I have never broken 40.  I have shot 40 I would say close to 5 or 6 times.  Today I played the lights out and came to the 9th tee 2 shots over par.  I needed a double bogey or better to get my 39, and this is where the story starts.

I sliced my drive over some trees to the right, but luckily there is an open landing area of rough right after those trees.  As I am walking in front of that tree line on the way to my ball I spot a golf right along the tree line.  I go to pick it up (I thought no way it was mine and it was just a lost ball) and then I noticed a "MOJO" logo pointing back at me.  I had been playing a MOJO the whole round and I just figured my ball had hit the tree and dropped down before clearing (stupid me).  So with this terrible lie I hack the ball back over the fairway.  I then  Have quite a search for that shot, and when I do find it I just played a 40 yard pitch back to the fairway.  I then proceed to hit a beautiful 8 iron from about 150-160 out to pin high.  I 2 putt and celebrate my 39.  Then while pulling my ball out of the cup I notice a Nike Swoosh above the MOJO.  The ball I had been playing with for the past 8 holes did not have a swoosh on it.  I had just played the last 5 shots with a wrong ball.  So I walk back to where I thought my drive would have landed had it cleared the trees and sure enough there it was.  I then proceeded to play that MOJO and carded a 5 for the hole.  Seriously what are the odds that I would find a MOJO with the ball tilted enough that the swoosh was covered. fjsadkgjhdksahfjkdsahf

I knew breaking 40 was too good to be true.  I'll always have this little taintedness behind it now.  But none the less I am going to count this as my best round 38 (my actual drive).  I suppose I will just have to shoot 37 the next time.

I moved up to the red tees (about 6300 for 18 besides my usual 6600 yard blues i play from).  What I noticed is almost all the holes at my course dog leg at 250 yards from the blues (about my average drive distance).  Since I was playing from the reds I drove through almost every dogleg.

So heres the stats.

38 (+3)

6 pars 3 bogeys

5/9 GIR

0/7 FWAY (only hit one bad drive which was on 9, 4 where straight through doglegs)

17 putts (2 putted every hole  except I had a 1 putt for par on 6.

On an off note The guy in front of me was playing an R11 so that was cool to see, and I found a titleist which is always good.

Dont feel too bad, the golf gods hate us all.  It was just a fluke and theres no reason why you cant shoot that score again or better.

The way to break barriers is to quit keeping score while you play.  Just play one at a time and let the score take care of itself.
