Hi everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. Been working on some things at the range lately and a freeze frame of my setup (which I initially thought to be very good) shows a couple things that I was hoping to get some opinion on. I've attached the freeze frame in question and listed my thoughts at the bottom of the post. Any advice or things to think about would be appreciated!

Things I've noticed:

1. Awkward looking left arm position. I can't exactly put my finger on it but it just doesn't look right... almost like it is too sucked in towards the ball?

2. Right shoulder below left. Normally a good thing... does this look too low? Or maybe the left is too high?

3. Knees kicked in. Again, something talked about as good but again again, is it too much?

4. Strong left hand. I have a pretty flat "one-plane" type of swing so I knew my grip was strong but this looks like it could be too strong...

Thanks again for reading!

Just push the handle forward a little bit. Otherwise it's fine.

Looks fine.

I might prefer to see them slightly more out but it's not a big deal.

It's possibly a tad too strong. But majors have been won with stronger left hand grips (and much much weaker ones too), so who knows? If it's not causing a problem - and this is true of all these things - who cares?

Imagine if you were on a skateboard right now, you look as though your upper body is tilting away from the target and the majority of your weight is back causing you to ride a wheelie and keeps your head way behind the ball.

I use a skateboard as a practice drill, with a foot on each side I take my address and I'm ready when I have the rear wheels of the skateboard slightly off the ground and I have my upper body tilted towards the target which results in the ball being on the same line as my ear at address...

Hey man, this could be all wrong. But this is what works for me and I', getting crazy long and consistent.

Please don't do that, jmm.

CuppedTin is giving you some variant (not one I'd teach, really) but here are two S&T; guys. I chose these two specifically because they have varying amounts of shoulder tilt, handle-forward-ness, etc. Both have their knees slightly out rather than in but again I don't know that it's all that important.

Your setup, basically, looks fine. Some things might need changing based on what you do from there but it looks fine.

You should change this thread into a "My Swing" thread and look to add video to it.

He has set up to the ball with a driver pretty much ideally.  He's not leaning back, his shoulder tilt just makes it look that way.  The only thing I'd want to be different is the knees and thats not really a setup issue, just more of an "athletic stance" issue..but thats more opinion than anything else.

How is your ball flight and consistency with the driver, JMM?

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

Thanks everyone for some great input! It's always tough with varying swing philosophies to dial this stuff in so I realize I didn't give you much to go on.

As far as the comment about pressing my hands forward a bit, I do agree that would probably look a little better but would the face of the driver then be a little too open? I would imagine I would have to regrip to square the face back up correct?

My driver consistency has always been a strong point although I just moved from a 9.5 Cleveland DST Tour with a low kick point shaft to an 8.5 Taylormade Burner Superfast TP 2.0 with a higher kickpoint as the launch monitor said my launch angle and spin were too high. It's a little more difficult to get around but I'm starting to get used to it and I've gained 10-15 yards or so.

I may have to post a video to get some critiques as well.

Thanks again for the comments! I'll take as many as I can get... you can never have too many swing thoughts... wait... ha!

Only if you rotate while moving your hands forward. Just push the handle forward without rotating.

Hey Erik, I'm not very good at explaining what I do, but what problems do you see in what I explained... Am I doing something wrong or am I just explaining it wrong?

To me the ball looks a bit to forward. Everyone says it should be off your front foot, but i only agree to that if your stance is a bit narrower. Really i like to see the ball off the label on the golf shirt, or just outside the left ear. That might be why your hands look like there not forward. Which you might want to just move them ahead maybe a bit. The right shoulder looks good. You look like your hands are close to your body there, can you take a picture of down the line. It just looks like your on your heels there, and you might be standing to close to the ball.
