So the idea of this thread is to post stories of douches or whatever you've encountered while on a course or range that has pissed you off somehow...

I'll start... well I took a 2 week break from golfing due to being busy and I just got back in it about 3 weeks ago, and I brought a buddy with me to try it out and he has been hooked since I started again, for the last 3 weeks we have been to the range about 5 time a week I've been sharing what I know with him to get him ready for the course...

About a week ago we encountered a stuck up douche in his late 30s with his wife and his bud at the range, how it started was, me and bud went to buy a drink, and when I got back to my stall, this guy was in there he poured all his balls together with mine, I went up to him and said that it was my stall then he said, "sorry kid I didn't know" (clearly it was mine since all my stuff was lined up infront of the ball tray) he then just looked away and started talking to his bud like it didn't matter, so I asked if I could have like 10 balls back then all he said was "tough luck, sorry buddy" so I just got pissed and just grab my clubs and 2 hand full of balls out of the tray he then gives me a dirty look and mumbled something as I was walking away, at this point I was furious, but I just left it at that. Now my buddy is right beside him and this guy keeps giving him stupid looks when he did bad shots, then his friend decided to join in and told my bud to quit while hes ahead, I walked up and told them to stfu, and if they wanna go I'll bash them. His wife end up breaking it up, apologizing to us, and we went back to doing whatever. When we finished I was packing up, and he said "about time these clowns left", I went up to him and kicked the ball tray so it spilt everywhere then grabbed one of his iron and threw it as far as I could in the range and left.

It was so messed up and made such a scene, all because he wanted the stall under the shade, he could of asked me to move to the end, I usually respect my elders too.

Got a couple more that I might share later, what a week at the range.

Please share if you have some.

I've never met anyone like that.  I tend to get more mad at my poor shots than individuals.. I know for a fact if you had thrown my iron just for some words I said I wouldve knocked you out (assuming you're 18).  But I suppose it didn't get to him that much because he was kind of instigating it lol.  Shitty situation for sure

I play as a single quite often so I encounter a ton of really nice people but occasionally you do run into what the OP considers a douche.

One experiance that really stands out is I played with a father and a son.  The boy was about 13 and a really good ball striker.  The father had a comment about every swing the kid took.  The kid was playing 2 or 3 over after 12 holes and the old man was just giving him a raft of crap.  On thenext hole the young man and I were left of the green while his father was far right of it.  He had a dejected look on his face and I asked him if his father took the fun out of the game for him and he replied yes. I told him he was just trying to help him to improve but  no matter what not to give up on the game and try to make it fun every time out.  I guess his dad  was a Douche

The other week, me and some buddies were playing a late back 9, and we get to the 18th hole. Some wedding is goin on, and the photographer is taking pics on the green. The manager of the club shows up at that second (coincidence) and tells them to get off the green. They argue. He asks if they'd prefer we just hit it. One douchebag goes "Yeah, if they wanna get hit!" I got pissed and yelled at him and his 6 friends... "Real tough mother------ aren't we!? Get off the --------- green." So he starts walking at me with a couple friends. My buddies come up, and then the manager and the photographer start to break it up. I had my glove off, my sunglasses in the cart, and the hat was backwards. I was ready. But fortunately things cooled down and we got a free hot dog out of it from the manager, who couldn't really do much.

Also had not one but THREE balls wiz past me and a group. So I told him that giving a heads up is customary... he says "It's nowhere near you guys." I didn't press it, but I wasn't happy about three balls flying over our teebox.

I coulda sworn I left the cart right here......

You guys are so angry lol.  I would just skip the hole.. then again i dont take things that seriously o well to each his own

Good reply man, and to the OP, if you have to tell someone that you are going to bash them than you better be ready to do it. I'm just sayin. :-)

I was playing with a friend once and he had hit his ball into the rough between two fairways.  He went over there and hit it, and then a guy from the other fairway comes over and starts yelling at him, "You just hit my ball!".  My friend told the guy that he had checked the ball to make sure it was his, and it was, but this guy didn't care.  He just started yelling and cussing at him (I seriously thought I might have to help defend my friend from this guy)...then he sees his own ball on the ground next to him.  He goes "Oh, here it is", hits it and leaves.  No apologies or anything.  That's the biggest douche I've met, that I can recall anyway.

I had a good experience this weekend.  My brother and I had an early round at a course in Wichita, KS.  It was just the two of us and the starter paired us with a single, he was in his early 60's and kind of soft spoken.  Come to find out he grew up in Wichita, but went to the west coast to go to college and stayed out west.  He had worked for a large electronics company for years, then started his own business that was very successful and now was relocating back to Wichita to help with his parents.  He was very intelligent, had a very interesting life and was a decent golfer, he never played a shot from the trees, like my brother and I.

He was a nice gentleman and I would have enjoyed playing more golf with him.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Three instances I can think of, all at the same course (I played A LOT of rounds at the course. It’s also the cheapest course around so it gets a lot of meatheads).

1) Par 4 where second shot requires a long second shot over water if you don’t cut the corner. A guy who had hit up on us a couple times already decided hit a wood in while we were on the green. He must have had about 180 to carry the water, 188 to the front of the green. The ball lands at the front edge of the 22 yard deep green and rolls up a few feet from us. So I calmly walked over to his ball and foot wedged him into the water. He got all pissy saying he was just trying to lay up, never mind that the fairway slopes down towards the water so if he wanted to lay up a 150 club probably would have been too much club. I just flicked a hand at him and told him to go away and stop annoying us.

2) Another Par 4 and another guy who had already hit up on us a few times. Lands another near my group and I looked back to see him holding a wood in his hands. I reached in my bag, pulled out the trusty 4 wood and hit it back over their heads. It was priceless watching them stand there, mouths open tilting their heads back to watch the ball fly over their heads. They didn’t get pissy and stopped hitting up on us.

3) Playing with a few kids from our neighborhood we were on the par 4 mentioned above. There were some old guys in front of us who weren’t the fastest group in the world. One of our guys starts telling us to hit when we know they aren’t far enough out of range. Everyone declines so this guy tees it up and promptly nails one of the guys square on the beany button on top of his baseball cap. The old guy went down like a ton of bricks and the guy in our group went out to apologize. When he gets back to the tee he starts bitching that he didn’t get his ball back… what a douche.

Other, not playing that day but same course since I lived right next to it.

4) Walk out the back door and there sits a meathead 40 yards into our backyard about to swing to hit a ball over the cars parked in the driveway. I asked “what the $^#% do you think you are doing?” and got back just a “what?”. I started verbally abusing the guy and he claimed he didn’t realize it was out of bounds. I said “oh, you didn’t see the foot wide burn line marking the out of bounds that you had to cross to get into our yard?  or the multiple signs that state out of bounds? Never mind that what kind of moron would think a spot where you need to hit over a residents parked cars in their driveway would $%#

Why would you hit back at people? You could literally kill someone. I don't care if you think you knew you would of cleared them  there is always room for error, especially as a 15 handicap....even a scratch.

Why did any of you allow the guy to hit the ball? If I golfed with someone as stupid as this guy  I would of probably punched him myself and told him to get the **** off the course

Also a Fail. While I don't condone the guy who hit into you, it may not have been intentional, especially if the fairway slopes down - the ball may simply have traveled farther than he intended it to. Regardless, the correct way to handle the situation is like an adult - i.e., lose the attitude and just talk to the guy, don't throw his ball in the water.

They obviously felt it was OK to hit into us multiple times while our back were turned to them. Sorry, I don't see a problem hitting it back to them while they are looking directly at me. I wasn't trying to clear them, I was trying to hit the ball back to them. It was just priceless that it did clear them.

We told him multiple times he shouldn't hit, he hit anyways *shrugs*. I was about 14-15 yrs old at the time he was about 16-17. If I recall correctly we stopped playing the round after he hit the guy and I definately never played golf with him again.

That is exactly why you fail. The correct response to stupidity is not more stupidity.

Nah, I was a kid at the time so I had plenty of attitude. Might do the same today since it was painfully obvious the guy was trying to clear the water. Also this is a 9 hole course where I knew the guy had already played the hole once, he knew how little distance there was between the end of the water to the start of the green and that the green was not deep (22 yards). As I said a 150 yard club might have been too much club to layup. If he hit a mid iron that would be one thing but there is no way he was trying to lay up with a wood in his hands (3 or 4 wood. I can't remember which as it was 25 years ago).

Something similar happened to me at the beginning of the season. We were playing a quick 9 before work, myself, a friend, a co-worker, and the boss. We had a slow group in front of us and had to hang back. The course was open enough that this should have been obvious to the people behind us.

2nd hole is a downhill par 4 dogleg left. I throw my tee shot out around 250 and walk down to the ball. I'm sitting there waiting to hit 100 into the green that the foursome of ladies is front of us is still on. I look back to the guys on the tee lining up. "He's just taking a practice swing." Nope, hits into me, ball lands 25 feet short of me. I throw up my hands to let him know he's coming too close I'm not too pissed, it happens. His partner proceeds to tee up and hit one within 15 feet of me! Now I'm pissed. We play the hole and while waiting on the next tee the group avoid us, no apology despite the cold stare I'm giving them from across the green.

7th hole is a long par 3. We finish up and are walking to the next tee, the green we just left is a good distance to the right of us. I'd feel it's safe to hit if I were them, and they do so. One guy shanks it and line drives literally between the 4 of us. Almost catches by buddy in the gut. NO fore, NO heads up, nothing. No apology as they drive up, they actually drove around the other side of the green.

9th hole three of us hit our drives 225-250 (I used a 3 wood, usually goes about 230). We're standing there waiting for the group in front of us to vacate the tee and we get hit into again! The ball literally bounces up and rolls by our feet. I turn around and consider shooting it back at them, but, this is not a good idea. I was so pissed however I did hit the guy's ball into the pond next to us. Normally I wouldn't think of doing such a thing, but this is 3 times, all close, and all obvious. By the time we're on the green the kid comes up to us (he's my age-26) and tell us he didn't think he could drive it that far. I'm sorry, I hit a 3-wood, and this is a twenty-something year old who looks to be in decent shape with a driver in his hands. No f*%^ing way! We ripped into him for a while. The starter is then walking towards us, and we think we're going to get asked politely not to come back. He asks if the "a

i dunno.. it sounds to me like some of you guys are just as douche-y as the people you're talking about.

i play as a single, at least a round a week, and i rarely run into a-holes.  i remember none of them.

i do remember:

- a former michigan basketball player, in his 80's, who carried his bag the whole round (a 9 hole round, but still impressive).  very classy and gracious gentleman.

- an 80's rock singer, now in his late 50's going around to small pubs/bars and playing his old "hits".  funny guy.  no, you've never heard of him or his band.

- doug, i played with him on sunday.  his son just graduated the same high school i went to (23 years ago..). nice man.

- the two john's i played with on saturday.  my tee shot hit a concrete curb of the pond that's in front of green, and it bounced up onto the green right next to them.  unlike you guys that would've thrown my ball into the pond, they accepted my apology, and finished the round with them.

- the guys, i forget their names, that bought me a drink at the 19th hole after i finished a round with them.  we chatted about everything golf.. good times!

i guess, in short, i like this game and the people i end up playing with.   as for the stories, at first i liked hearing them until you guys get to the part where you return the DB behavior with more DB behavior.

"a gentleman never accuses another gentleman of not being a gentleman."

OK... So you are a twosome riding behind a walking foursome. At one par 4 you wait for them to clear the green and then hit your approach shots. As you drive up to the green they are just beginning to tee off and tell you guys to play through after you finish the hole. After you finish they are in the fairway all looking directly at you and waiving you up. You have the deadliest of weapons in your hand the Driver. I assume you will not play through even though they are looking directly at you?
