Can't find a ball.

I need some help in trying to determine what golf ball to play. I singed up for golfball selector but it seems to be way too subjective to be very reliable.  I hate all the brand specific fitting, they all seem way to subjective.  Each time I do one of those, I get a different answer.

I shoot mid 80s, I try to work the ball both ways with mixed results. I want it all = , less spin off the driver, more spin on approaches, etc and I like softer balls.  I would buy tour level balls but I don't think they would make much of a difference for me as my Swing is about 90mph.

I don't get to play as much as I'd like and when I do, I forget to really focus on what ball I am playing or how it acts.

Any Ideas?  Any feedbak on the new Q-star?

The Q-Star is amazing.  Its very much like a Bridgestone E6 but with more spin.  By that I mean they fly very straight but still stop on the greens well.  For the price, I dont think you will find a better ball.

You also might want to consider the Bridgestone E5.  Its another inexpensive ball that spins almost like a tour ball.

on the cheaper side Srixons AD 333 are suprisingly soft and back up heaps of my gap wedge

Its a personal thing...I cant hit anything that doesnt say Titleist on it.  From the wound DT's to the Balata to the Professional to the ProV1.  You could give whatever the latest "top of the line" ball is and it would look like a tomato to me sitting on the tee.

I would say play a bunch and go with the one that feels right...

I guess what I don't understand is this...I would gladly spend $45+ on a box of golf balls IF i knew they would provide me with that I am looking for as stated above.   What I don't get is that most tour level balls balls spin more and trypically that means more spin all around = more spin on driver, more spin on irons, more spin on everything.   While that may be good for working the ball, it's my understanding that more spin, off the driver or iron, means less distance.  This is why I am looking for a ball that will provide straighter, longer ball flight off the driver with good to extrmely good spin off driver and wedges for control.   Also I have heard that certain swing speeds wont benefit form tour level balls - is this true?  Where do I fit in with a 90mph swing speed?

Pros don't need the distance because they hit it far enough and, when they want to, straight enough.  This is why most tour level balls are "shorter".  Based on what you say you're looking for, get yourself a sleeve of Srixon Q-Stars and a sleeve of Bridgestone e5s.  Either should do the trick for you, though I'll admit I'm partial to the Q-Stars (and really any Srixon ball).

I need distance but I thought that the tour level spinny balls would produce more fade or draw.  SO I don't know where to find the balance, do I just go with a spinny ball all around or something like the Qstars that people have mentioned

You could always buy a variety of mint used balls (you can buy according to brand/type) so if you do not end up liking them, you have still saved yourself money.  A dozen mint used Pro V1s cost 50% of new and they'll play basically the same.

Sounds like you may like one of the Pinnacle balls.......they provide great distance....go straight and have more roll than spin on the green.......btw you can get them everywhere for little cost.

pllayed a course today north of Tampa called Scotland Yards....a links course where for $27 you got 18 holes w/cart + hot dog + chips + soft drink + a sleeve of golfballs. The golf balls were Nike PD Soft....so I played them...actually, I played one of them for 18 holes.....they were long, straight and had a nice click feel off the putter. The did not drop & stop on the green.....I had to plan for roll out of the bunkers or rough onto the green. That being said, I stopped by Walmart where they sell them for $15/dozen. A good ball for a beginner.

I would recommend checking out Bridgestone's ball fitting on their website for a general fit for a ball. The fitting shouldn't be used as a final solution for picking a ball, but it should get you started. I started with the E6 and hated it, moved to the B330-S and absolutely love that ball (my other ball choices are the V1x or the Penta TP).

I've heard a lot of great things about Srixon and personally would love to try them out at some point. You could also try the new Nike 20xi, where they claim to be longer and less spin off the tee, and more spin on the greens because of the resin core. I played a box for a month and liked it, but I ended up playing much better with the B330-S, which is why they are in my bag now.

To the OP: if your driver swing speed is around 90mph, then try the Bridgestone B330 RXS. They are designed for people like you and me who average less than 105mph off the tee. The B330 (and the corresponding S version) are for people who swing at speed over 105mph, and will feel hard(er) if you swing slower than that.

The Sand Trap reviewed the balls recently ( see here for the B330 series and here for the e series).

If you feel like trying a couple of different balls, I'd suggest first the Bridgestone e5 (which is, as far as I know, the only non-tour ball with a urethane cover), the Srixon Q Star, and then the Bridgestone B330 RXS.

I tried the B330RXS during my trip to the US 2 weeks ago and the ball felt great off the irons and woods, and soft off the putter (although not as soft as a Z-Star or ProV1, but close).

I just found out that Bridgestone is now selling the RX and the e series in Japan, and I'm giving the e5 a shot this week-end. I've putted quite a bit with it and it feels pretty nice.

maybe look at nike PD soft, good of the tee not to spinny i do slice but but thats me not the ball if anything it helps me as 90% i have a second shot as i havent lost the ball lol, also good around the greens i also got my first ball to spin back on friday

i also play srixon ad333 and just bought a dozen srizon soft feels afre reading good reports, not gamed the soft feel yet
