Played the Hawk early afternoon on Saturday.  It was warm and very windy but the course seemed to be in pretty decent shape. Nothing really stood out to me as bad as far as course condition goes.  I don't really have anything to compare it to since it's the first time I've played the Hawk this year.  Hopefully that means they're getting it together?  I shot an 87.  Was hitting the ball pretty well and was guessing right on distances more often than not with the wind except for on the par 3's.  Was +9 on those four F'N holes.    Didn't have one tee shot come anywhere close to landing on any one of the greens.  Oh well.  I was surprised there weren't more people on the course considering the weather we've had the last two weeks. Didn't have anyone in front of my foursome the entire day.  That was nice.

I'd be free Saturday morning this weekend.  Going to the Memorial on Sunday and will be out of town next weekend, so I'd be out for those.  Other than that I can make time on a Saturday or Sunday if I know in advance.

Kittyhawk started the season off poorly, but does seem to be getting back on track. From what I heard it was some kind of staffing issue with the grounds crew. It's been much better the last few weeks.

On those par 3s, I feel your pain. Aside from No. 8, I never come real close on any of them. On No. 13, there has never been a tee shot that hasn't found a sand trap unless I outright thin it short.

Curious what a good weekend would be to get a few of you guys up here to play at one of the courses here. I haven't really picked a course yet, but I want to find out if it's even something that would happen before planning it.

There's always stuff to do, but I have enough flexibility to make anything happen most of the time. Nothing's spoken for yet this weekend.

Well, I ended up not going with my brother to NC. I had overdone it physically this week and there was no way my back was going to handle 12 hours in a car. Definitely not playing today, but depending on how much I've recovered by tomorrow I may go tomorrow afternoon. Or I may just take the whole weekend off.... Even though my body is sore it's hard to not go golfing when I look outside and see such a nice day.

It was a busy weekend for me. I had a gig on Saturday and played at church yesterday morning. I got a call from my brother who needed a ride home from the hospital, but then went to KHawk to get 9 in. It started raining a bit on #5 so I headed in since the top was down on my convertible. It was pretty disappointing anyway. I was smashing my driver but getting crappy results. On #2, pounded one up the right side of the fairway, but it landed and shot right into the hazard. On #5 I smashed another up the center of the fairway with a little cut. Perfect shot for that hole, but I couldn't find it anywhere. ???

Those fairways at Kittyhawk are dried out enough that you see some crazy bounces. The plus is that I've rarely been longer. The negative is some absurd hops into rough, hazards or traps when the ball hit something irregular.

In all honesty, it was probably a good thing I didn't golf over the weekend. After walking 18 Monday, golfing every day through the week, then burying my mom's dog Thursday night after league *pretty large hole, he was a 150 lb dog* and walking 18 on Friday.... my back was pretty screwed up. I don't think just taking one day off would have been enough to fully recover.

I'm thinking of setting a tee time for around 1 or 2 pm Sunday afternoon at Hidden Creek just north of Lima. Is anyone free/willing/able to come up here and play a round? I haven't called to make the tee time yet, wanted to get an idea how many I'd need to say the tee time would be for. There's an added bonus, I am pretty sure after 1 Friday-Sunday it's unlimited golf and cart for $25. That's, of course, if anyone besides me is crazy enough to keep golfing after 18 holes.

Just saw in the paper that Smiley's Golf and Baseball Center is getting auctioned off.

For those of you who never had the pleasure, Smiley's is an old-school driving range in Riverside. I doubt they've bought anything new other than golf balls in the last 40 years. There are no grass tees. The mats are warped and crunchy from years of exposure to the elements. The same loaner clubs with red-painted shafts have sat in the same two barrels for decades. Honestly the place is a bit of a dump, but its where I whacked my first golf balls. This was years before I ever took up the game. I'd just go out and knock balls around.

I guess I'm just feeling a bitter older now.
