On Friday I bought a sleeve of Pro V1's just to see how I liked them. $15 for a sleeve of three... . Normally I check the ball quick, but have never been one to bring the ball back without a wedge. Well, playing with the Pro V1 certainly changed that. Every shot that hit the green spun back at least five feet (which made it a bit uncomfortable in club selection). I didn't necessarily notice a drop off in distance, as some have stated, and the ball seemed to be a bit more durable than previously suggested as well.  I will also say that the ball seemed to have more workability (is this even a word? lol) than most other balls I've played.

Having said all that, I still can't justify paying out the arse for these balls, except maybe in the right conditions on a course that requires a substantial amount of spin. I probably won't ever purchase another sleeve of these balls, as I feel there are equally great other options out there, but for someone who absolutely HAS to play the best equipment on the market, this ball is probably the best you'll find....IMHO.

I think I'll probably just stick with the Srixon's I got for Father's day, but thanks for the website info ...I'll look into it.

Try the Bridgestone B-330 series sometime and let me know how you think they compare. 330 or 330S for swing speed>= 105; RX or RXS for <105.  Like you, I recently tried a sleeve of ProV1's and they are certainly a great ball, but I might like the B-330 series a little better all around. I went to one of their fittings and my speed was kinda on the bubble- around 103. Try a sleeve and let us know how you think they compare to the Srixon's and ProV's.

Earlier this year I tried the Pro V1, the Srixon Z and the Penta because I wanted to see what the hype was all about.  I hadn't tried a premium ball in years.  They all gave me the green sticking ability I wanted.  I ended up stocking up on the Penta because everybody seems to be running a 3 box for $80 sale right now, I'm sold as long as they stay competitive with mid price balls.   I like the Penta off my irons and the way they feel off the putter.  I didn't notice any significant distance loss or gain with any of them off the driver, if I catch them right they go long, if I catch them bad they don't.

I've hit a few pro v's but i dont care for em as much, my favorite high end ball is the 20XI for sure, that ball has great distance and really good spin!

The worst day of golf beats the best day of work!

I played the 20XI one round and hated it actually. It never felt right tee to green at any point in time. Maybe I'm just a Nike hater though...lol

I have been a Pro V1X loyalist for quite a few years now. But came into the 2011 season willing to find a new ball. Mainly due to cost and durability. I gave the Penta the first half the summer, probably 25 or so rounds...and it came down to the ball is more durable than the Pro V...bit it is shorter. At least a club shorter for me and quite a bit less spin around the greens. I do see some promise in the B330 line. Those will probably be my spring and fall golf balls. But the Pro V1X is still the best thing out there...this is my opinion of course.

I buy my Pro V1s from Birdie Golf in South Florida.  The usually run a local special for a dozen of ProVs or B330s for $15. They do an internet special for $21 shipped to your door.  Most of these balls are one hit wonders and are in mint or like new condition.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
