If you don't mind dropping some $$, Trump National in Rancho Palos Verdes definitely has quality rentals and is a gorgeous course...and at least when I played on a similar itinerary, it wasn't bad at all getting back to the airport after my round (?going against traffic...i'm not from LA)

Any recommendations for something within 20-30 minutes (weekday AM, considering traffic) of Pasadena?

Going to be in Long Beach in a month.  Any recommendations on courses I should play under $100?  Also looking for a good clubfitter in the area.  Not opposed to driving a couple hours for either.  Thanks

I would say you could get away with any long beach courses for under 100. Most are like 70 tops. If you want to step it up a little I dont know you'd have to ask somebody else. I can barely stand to pay that much. But for long beach I really like skylinks or el dorado. If you wanna travel into OC more Mile square is just down the freeway and a nice course. still around 65.

Skylinks and El Dorado both seem to get recommended a lot, so I'll definitely try both of those out.  Will maybe check out Mile Square one day when my brother is at work.  What about Los Verdes if I play early enough to avoid the worst of the crowds?  Seems to get mixed reviews.

Take the 405 N to the 118 to Moorpark and play Rustic Canyon. $41.00 to walk and it's one of the best courses I've played. Not a beautiful course but some of the best green complexes ever and a ton of fun..

from long beach??  sure, if smellysell wants to spend all day in his car.  i think that recommendation is nuts considering we're talking about south la.

they have that special *every* monday! :)  (well, except holidays..)

both courses are in the best shape in over a year, highly recommended.  even the $105 rate on the weekends makes it worth it.  comparable courses in the OC are about $60 more.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
