The family and I are going to Scottsdale on a little holiday at the end of November and I was wondering if anyone had some good recommendations for courses to play. I plan on golfing almost everyday and don't mind spending $100 or so on a couple rounds but would like to keep most of my rounds around the $40-$60 range. I was hoping that you guys could give me some courses that are a good bang for the buck. I got an golf deal email for SunRidge Canyon in Fountain Hills, $89 for a players card (won't ever use again), free round, cart, practice balls and a lunch entree. Is this a good deal? Thanks for your help guys!!!

Might be a little more expensive than you mentioned but I would highly recommend Talking Stick, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw

I've heard good things about Talking stick and will probably try to play it on a weekday with a golfnow booking and try to get a good deal on it. I would like to find a couple cheaper ones, Its hard to complain to the wife about how much she spends shopping when I drop $1000 on green fees in a week! Plus I want to pick up a new Driver while there. Where is the best place in Scottsdale to get one? PGA superstore?

PGA Superstore is great, imo better than Roger Dunn for fitting.  The BEST place to go is http://coolclubs.com/

I did it about 4 years ago and it was a really fun experience.  Get the ability to use Trackman and to hit multiple shafts in the head you want.

Not sure of price, I think it's $100 for the fitting and $50 can go towards a purchase.  Sorry I keep costing you more $

Courses out there are constructed of primarily bermuda and must be overseeded with rye in the fall for the winter.  Bermuda goes dormant in cold weather.  Make sure they have completed this process and have begun mowing, especially the greens.  Bentgrass greens don't go dormant so they don't need to be overseeded.

in the bag:
driver-titleist D2 10.5* w/aldila nv shaft
3-adams speedline fast 10 w/aldila shaft
hybrid-titleist 585 17* w/aldila shaft
irons-titleist 735cm w/ttdg s-300 shafts

wedges-cleveland 588, 53* and 60* w/ttdg shafts

putter-scotty circa 62 #1, gun metal finish

If you're really looking to keep green fees below $50-$60 you'll probably have to stay away from the Scottsdale Resort courses in late November.  But not to fear lots of nice courses you probably never heard of in the Phoenix metro area that have green fees inside of your budget.  Sun Ridge is a great course but likely over $60 at this time of year.  My suggestion is to do a Google search on Phoenix Metro golf and see if there are some courses that interest you and ask about them on this forum.  I also believe that the Golf Digest web has a course search and player assessments on courses (might be Golf Mag. but sure one of them does).  Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

I think Ping still offers free fittings at its factory on N 7th.  My son and I did it a few years ago.  You can't buy there, but if Ping is on your list its a great experience.  Check their website.

I have a couple of suggestions for you.  Not sure just what the green fees are end of November but these are very good courses and likely not too far off budget this time of year.  I would suggest you try Superstition Springs in Mesa or the Karsten course on the ASU campus in Tempe.  The Karsen course is a Pete Dye course so if you don't like Pete Dye designs don't go.   I would add Longbow in Mesa and if you don't mind traveling some The Raven @ South Mountain and The Legacy in Phoenix.  A last suggestion is Trilogy @ Power Ranch is a nice set up & challenging course and am pretty sure will be close to your budget costs at this time of year.  Good Luck hope you enjoy the vacation.  BTW the more recognized courses here are great and I don't have a thing against them, but I doubt they are anywhere near $40-$60 for green fees in late November.
