Can I please get some grip help? I was using for most of the year golf pride multi compounds in mid-size, I am now using standard size multi's. I want to get all my clubs re-gripped before next season. I like the looks of the red Golf Pride VDR's and of course the multi's. That being said any opinions on the VDR's and how many wraps to make my grips just under a mid-size? Thanks

I have done this before and gone with 4 wraps to be just under mid-size.  I use Pure Grips now, .58 round and their perfect, no tape.  I just slip the grip on and I don't stretch it at all.

I've always used standard size grips, why use midsize grip? Other than for folks with big hands are there any advantages over standard size grips?

There's no advantage if they don't fit.

Play what fits your hands. My glove size is cadet (small), my Winn Lite grips are midsize. Both fit.

Edit: For arthritic hands, and some other issues there is an advantage to going oversize. Bigger is easier be it a golf club, buttons, or a pencil.

i have relatively large hands (mens large in gloves) and i play with a standard grip +3 wraps and it plays just under midsize, and i use multicomps. for a note to the OP, i've found the vdr's aren't too good in the rain/wet/sweat category but, that's just my opinion.

Grip size is relative to your hand size.  My fitter told me that a larger grip will reduce the amount of hand action in your swing.  I found that based on my hand size I should use mid-size but that I prefer standard size with two wraps as I lose swing speed with mid-size (guess my swing is a bit handsy)

When I was fitted for my clubs the Ping White grip (standard size grip) is what I needed. This is the reason I ask http://www.jumbomaxgrips.com/no_flash/index.html

I recommend everyone see a pro regarding grip size.  This can be as simple as going to a local shop with a pro on staff and asking for advice while shopping. You don't even need to make a purchase...free advice.   IMO....there are a lot of people who use oversize grips to their own detriment.

FYI...my glove of choice is the Nike Dri-Fit Tour.  I wear a large and I use standard grips.  My 2 cents....

I started with standard grips & had alot of 3rd finger issues on my right hand.     I tried lamkin oversize & was hooked - they just feel more substantial & really work well for me.   I've learned to regrip all my own clubs & have them on everything I own now.      I always regrip before I even touch a ball with a new club - I like them that much ...

You had 3rd finger issues?  What in the hell is that and why does an oversize grip fix it?  What is a 3rd finger issue......right/hand ring-finger issue?

I'm not knockin'ya.....I just have no clue what you mean. LOL  I'm a lefty, so I'm trying to imagine having grip issues with my left ring/third finger....and having issues.

All I can tell you is that with the standard overlap grip, the 3rd finger on my right hand (the one next to the pinky) seemed to take the full force of the downswing - it got to bothering me so much it was effecting my swing & I often had to ice it after the round - no fun.   I subsequently changed to the 10 finger "baseball" grip & the Lamkin oversized grips & voila - no more finger issues & having alot more fun and success ...

inthehole, no offense man but i'd have to take a look at that grip. if you like the feeling of connectivity in your hands that you had with the overlap, try the interlock. it may feel more 'solid' for you, unless the baseball is yielding you better results...

Gio thanks for the post. I decided to try the VDR in red with 2 wraps. I guess it is in hope that a inexpensive grip will work for since GP multicomps run expensive when you do 14 clubs. Most likely won't be using them anytime soon but will post feedback when I do. Also treated myself to a new driver shaft for my Titleist 905R. Fingers crossed.

    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.

    • Yes, because you have lifted to like 120° without bending the left elbow. So when you turn and the left elbow bends… it bends in such a way that you then lower your left humerus and pull the club around you.
