This thread is absolutely right, but part of the difficulty is knowing what to focus on or what kind of drills I should be trying. Can someone really know without getting advice from a pro?

I'm not as good as the guy mentioned in the first post of this thread, but I'm definitely like him at times. I'm the exception (maybe? I'm not sure if a lot of people are this way) that I tend to hit the ball way better on the course than at the range. Probably need some tips on how to get more out of my practice.

Ton of great drill videos here.  http://thesandtrap.com/t/61376/5sk-video-thread and http://purestrike5sk.com/videos.php

Thank you for pointing me in the direction. I really think that could continue to help. As I said there, in the short term it did. I'm definitely someone who's been a bad practicer (? probably not a word) in the past and it really simplified the practice for me to have the 5 basics to keep in mind and some good drills to work on them.

Wanted to film  how I'v been going about practicing a couple things I've been working on.  Don't worry about what I'm working on, take note about HOW I'm doing it.  Probably spent 20 minutes with each piece.

Here I'm working on getting my hips more open by impact (A7) as my weight is well forward.

Working on slowing the rate my right wrist bends, made what felt like a very slow back swing when I hit the ball.  Not worrying about contact, just trying to change the picture and copy the feel I had on my rehearsals.

Thanks @mvmac .  I've been doing the same rehearsal for the lesson that @james_hirshfield gave me.  Working on the right elbow position at A5.

BTW, does anybody else besides me want to just run up and knock that ball pyramid over?

@ 27 sec. Doing it that slow - not as easy as it looks - I'm speaking from experience, (John Wayne voice) but if ya can't do it slow, ya ain't gonna do it fast (John Wayne voice off) imho.

Agree 100%.  I always have to take a lot of time increasing the speed during practice so when I go full speed I don't go back into bad habits.

This looks almost exactly what @james_hirshfield has me working on, getting my right elbow below my left at A5 so as to flatten the shaft angle.

Spent some time in Florida just recently hitting 7-irons 30 degrees right because it reinforced a feeling in my right palm. Happy to do it. Changing the picture.

Last week Aaron Baddeley was at an even at my club and my son Stephen asked him

Q: What would you have done differently as a junior golfer?

A: Hit less balls but hit them all with a specific purpose.  Lee Westwood and I talk about this all the time.

Absolutely true. My instructor drills it into me that I need to "practice with a purpose". It's something I am trying to improve as I have tendency to get a bit lost at the range in regards to what I am working on. Usually when this happens I take a step back and realize that I am just batting balls instead of being deliberate with what I am trying to do with each shot.

    • Day 312 - Better finishing position, fuller backswing, PRGR to see how swing speed was.
    • Going to a Friendsgiving tomorrow and I am bringing a no-bake cheesecake. I make the crust too big, but I think it turned out good. The filling is really good.
    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
