I am in need of a 2 hybrid to bridge the gap between my 3 iron and my 3 wood.  I hit some different hybrids into a monitor yesterday and I liked the Adams V3 and the idea black super hybrid the best.  Before I pulled the trigger, I wanted to know what people liked/disliked about these two hybrids (sorry for being so specific).  The super hybrid seemed to be longer shafted almost more like a FW metal but it was bullet.  The V3 set up more like a true hybrid and I it felt great, but....it is $100 more.  Also, is 17* the right replacement for a 2 iron, my 3 iron is 21*.  Please let me know any oppinions you may have about these hybrids.  Thanks!

I can't comment on on the V3, but I did recently purchase  a 17 degree AIBSH (my new acronym since it's a ridiculously long name otherwise). I'll give you a rundown of my current 2-iron replacement hybrids and you can take that fwiw.

2009 - first generation Wilson Staff Fybrid, 19 degrees with UST V2 R shaft. Can't comment on the current Fybrid or WS hybrids, but this thing finally convinced me a hybrid was a scoring club and not a crutch. I started going for par 5s in 2 again. I used it off the tee and can work that thing like a 2-iron, but the shaft is just a smidgen too soft and that's why it's not in the bag. It might be again in a few years.

2011 - used Nickent 4DX, 17 degrees with UST S shaft. Purchased for the shaft but I didn't get around to swapping the R from the WS Fybrid. I used the Nickent on the course and the range a few times. About the same distance as a 2-iron and a nice ball flight - when I didn't hook it OB. Felt dead even on pure strikes. Not a fan - at all.

2011 - Callaway FTiz 18 degree with stock S shaft. Felt good, but since it's painted like an iron replacement with slight it takes some getting used to at setup. The distance control is fantastic so it really fits the bill as a 2-iron replacement. Shaft is a bit soft for an S though. I picked up the matching 21 degree off ebay and it's a gem. I actually ended up still carrying a blade 2-iron and replacing my 3-iron occasionally and it's a good fit. I can step on it and get 2-iron distance but there's always a risk of exceeding the stock shaft. (I go driver, 3w, 2-iron, 21 degree, 4-iron, etc.)

2011 - right before Christmas I went into Golf Town to sign up for lessons and ended up demoing a 15 degree and 17 degree AIBSH with stock voodoo S shafts which were on clearance. What I really was looking for was something to replace both a 3-wood and a purely struck 2-iron (still might go 2i, 4i, etc) which is why I tried both lofts.  I went with the 17 degree and its so long it's mind boggling. Not LD contest long, but as long as my 3-wood and sets up just like the WS Fybrid - in other words WYSIWYG. No offset and no appearance at address of the "helping" technology. Can't say how this thing will be outdoors, but I'm looking forward to going Driver, 17 degree, 2-iron, etc. Gotta lighten that bag!!

In summary - do it!!

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
