Does anybody know of a good, reputable golf training aids website?

I am currently in the process of opening a golf academy in Spain and looking to purchase quite a large number of golf training aids in order to get started. With a bit of luck, we could actually open three new golf academies this year. I've contacted a few US-based websites but so far haven't received a reply. Perhaps they don't trust me or my e-mails are going straight into their junk mail!

Anyway, I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction as I need to make an order quite soon and whether it is from the US, the UK or elsewhere they'll need to have the items I need in stock and be able to ship them over to Spain within a reasonable amount of time. At the moment, we are only looking for the 'cheap' training aids, not TrackMan, Flightscope etc.

Thanks.

I would contact the manufacturer's website directly. In doing so, you might get some bulk discount as well.

A few of my favorite training aids are listed below...

Pure Ball Striker- Cheap training aid for sure, $10 or so. It is a small round rubber object that aids in feeling and maintaining lag. Jeff Evans, the inventor, has some videos on Youtube and his website for the PBS. There is a very good review here somewhere. Search Pure Ball Striker or PBS and you should find it. A very simple, yet effective training aid. It allows folks to feel something that is hard to articulate. Very simple once you feel it, but elusive to many.

Tour Striker- A fantastic training aid (club) that forces you to hit down on the ball. Very slick invention by Chuck Martin and he has some videos of course for the club. It comes in regular and pro models. The "pro" is just harder to hit. I got the 7 iron pro model and it improved my ball striking immediately.

Momentus Driver (weighted)- Very helpful for teaching tempo in the golf swing. It comes in various clubs, but the driver model was of most benefit to me. I hit 10-15 balls with it and then pick up my regular driver. Simple, but it works. Unlike many training aids, you can hit balls with it which is of great utility.

Medicus driver or iron- You can hit balls with it as well. It is a hinged club that breaks down if your tempo is off, take away is too quick, transition is too quick, off plane, etc.. Very worthwhile training aid and the fact that you can actually hit balls with it is great.

Smart Glove (website is sklz.com)- A glove with some rigid components that aids in the flat left wrist at impact. This glove will help the flippers out there. I know it helped me at any rate. When you flip, you feel an unpleasant pressure from the rigid plastic in the glove. This is a very simple and intuitive product to use.

Bobby Clampett's book "The Impact Zone"- The best golf book I ever read. Of particular interest, the Pure Ball Striker, Tour Striker, and Smart Glove are all very much related to the info in Bobby's book. Chapter 4 of this book, discussing lag, should accompany the PBS. It was actually reading this book and discovering the importance of a flat left wrist, more forward swing bottom, etc.. that led me to purchase the fore mentioned training aids. His book, along with the above training aids, helped me tremendously. I would give every student a copy of this book without hesitation. Wish I had read it 20 years earlier.

Good luck with your pursuit.

Many thanks for replying Dan.

I think contacting the manufacturers' websites directly is a good idea. I also like your suggestions, in fact pretty much all of them are on my list! I even have a couple of PBSs but haven't been using them recently.

I need to get my hands on Bobby Clampett's book as I keep hearing great things about it.

Thanks. I tried them and their e-mail address doesn't work.

    • I believe that losing a tour card is too extreme but definitely agree that more needs to be done to prevent slow play.
    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
