Since there has been a lot of buzz after Hunter's win I wanted to give the Nome it's own thread

From PING:
Quote:
This alignment feature consists of an arching piece of black anodized aluminum that extends across the crown of the putter. A contrasting white sightline runs through the center of the piece, extending from the rear of head to the leading edge of the face, for one continuous visual thread. This feature is particularly helpful for golfers who draw a putting line around the equator of their ball, as the putter's sightline can "connect" with the line on the ball with minimal visual interruption.

The Nome putter will also be offered with three different shaft bends, which will alter the balance of the putter from face balanced to toe down in varying degrees. Hunter just put it in the bag this week.

Very timely thread. Thank you.

I can't say the same for Ping. The putter isn't ready until March. They would have sold out this week.

I've never been able to find success with a mallet, but I really like that they're going to build this with different strokes in mind. I would definitely be interested in trying this out in the strong arc design based on my feedback on the iPing app. Heck, I'd like to test all three out and see if my results match what they "should".

Also, good work by GPPGolf.com to spring into action and make them available. Not seeing it on Ping's website, let alone any retail sites.

Can anyone remember a putter getting this much attention during a big event? The announcers were talking about Mahan's putter all weekend. Amazing exposure.

I'm not a fan of the look but whatever works. I like a blade putter. I've had a few different style putters in the past three years and the blade style works best for me. Like Mr. Desmond said if that putter was available right now they'd be selling like crazy.

Putters seem like the clubs that can get the most attention.  Matt Every's putter got some attention at the Sony and obviously Keegan Bradley when he won the PGA.  But it's rare for the media to identify the putter by name like they have with the Nome imo.  When the 2-ball came out it was huge.

Similar idea to the PING Sydney, but much more toned down.  I got to hit some putts with it at the PGA Show, for a big mallet, I think it works, that white line really sticks out, more than maybe the pics illustrates

Yet another example of people putting too much emphasis on what clubs a tour pro is using.  Im glad the Nome works for Hunter but you wont see me rushing out to go buy a Nome when they are available.

The white line on black is great for alignment, but I am not sure why the black aluminum part has is so complicated looking. The curves and cutouts are distracting. This could be a great looking putter if they took away the styling and simplified the shapes. Ping has someone on their design team that is a stylist, and is making their putters look a little Craz-E.

I think it's pretty unremarkable to be fair; I neither like nor dislike it aesthetically.

Well I just received my Nome orange dot putter today in the mail. I got fitted while visiting their great AZ facility, I will be practicing with it this week, wish I had it for the weekend as I just got home from Sawgrass and wish I could have used it there.

    • I can see a point in this.  If you play a straigth 3 footer with a square face aiming at the hole, you can miss both ways, with a close face or an open one. If you aim rigth an close the face at impact (like tiger used to do), physically you can still miss left or rigth but mentally you are only missing left (closed face) and having only 1 miss can give you a boost in confidence. I putt this way on fade putts and aim left and open the face on draw putts, never liked the uncerteinty of putting square to the target.  I apply something like this on approach shots, only use low or high shots and for middle shots I use a low shot with more loft ot a high shot with less loft. This shots are always what they meat low or high, a middle one can go a little towards the high and the low depending on the AoA of each shot making it mentally a little more uncertain what is going to be.
    • Yeah, I'm not sure if he is genuine or not either but that's not why I'm giving him props.
    • I really liked this videos.    I wonder about how to effitiently apply force to the handle of the club on the downswing.  Me personally used to apply force to the grip in the direction off the ball. I had a very steep angle of attack with my hands to the ball.  After looking at this videos I started to apply force downwards in the beginning of the backswing and then towards the flag/target when I was about to hit the ball.  After looking at pro players, they all start to lift their hands before hitting the ball. I don't know if it is because of pushing with their left leg up or because they apply force upwards to the grip when they reach the ball, or something else?
    • I'm pro BDC because of his scientific approach to golf, but I don't think he is been genuine since he started youtube and had this goal to be liked by all.    Congrats to scotty, yes is boring to watch a major when only 1 player is in contention, but the man is crushing it, he is making it look easy despite playing against the elite of golf.
