Hi all.  New to the forum.  Anybody on here using the oversized putter grips that seem to be becoming more and more popluar.   I tend to be a little "wristy" in my stroke so i'm thinking this may help me a bit. Pro's/Cons?  Thanks for the help.

Implementing a flat left wrist improved my putting more than anything. The wristy action of the past killed my distance control. Learned about it reading Bobby Clampett's book, "The Impact Zone". A book about the full swing, famous in fact, it turned out to be the single greatest improvement in my putting game as well.

As for big grips, they are used to correct a flaw you already know of, wristy strokes. For me personally, the larger grips (I tried many of) muted my feed back from the putter head. The feed back is feel. Feel is distance control. I now use Pingman or Iomic midsize on all my putters. Feel is very subjective of course, but these thinner grips afford me far more distance control than the larger, often softer, grips did.

Want to improve your putting? Read the many articles in the tips section of Geoff Mangum's site. Tons of free info from this putting guru.

If you search on here we've had a lot of threads asking about this. My personal feelings (I have an oversized grip on one of my putters) are that whatever the large grip did to quiet my hands was basically undone by the counterweighting of the heavier oversized grip. I found really no improvement, and the putter I use now has a normal (Iomic brand, FWIW) grip.

JDebo -- As already suggested, it's a personal thing.  When I went to a large grip, I was better and more consistent immediately.  I can't really explain why, other than I felt like I held the putter with a much lighter grip pressure.  For whatever reason, it just worked for me.

What's in the Bag:

3-wood: Taylormade Burner 15*
Hybrid: Taylormade Burner 19*

Wedges: Vokey 50*, 54*, 58*

I used a Tigershark oversize  most of last year & liked it.    I replaced it with a Ping slab sided oversized & really like it - it's a huge grip.    Definitely quiets the hands & you get more of a feeling of swinging with the shoulders.    I use oversize grips on all of my other clubs too - just don't like the feel of small grips.

I use a Winn Mid-Sized grip and it was helped with my grip pressure more than anything else.  I saw great improvements since I put it on, but I do still sometimes struggle with distance control.

The only way to really know if it's worth it for you is to actually try one out for a little while.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
