I have always been a good long iron player but have started hitting my 2 iron really thin. It still goes straight and long but it flies no higher than 40 feet or so. This is a problem because it used to land and stop within 10 feet or so, now it rolls through the green.

Maybe I should buy one of those hybrids now that I am getting on a bit. I have heard they get the ball up easier than an iron of the same 16-17° loft.

Your feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure what 2 iron you're hitting but I'd bet there is more than 16-17* of loft on the club.  3 woods are 15*.  Some 3 irons now are old 2 iron lofts.  Yes check out a hybrid, even on the PGA tour they're are only a handful of players using a 2 iron, some have even taken out the 3 iron.

If you could hit it before no reason you can't hit it now.  Make sure your ball position is correct.  Maybe try moving it back slightly in your stance that might help.

Maybe it has 18°, but my 3i has 21°, I do know that for certain. Don't you have any tips becos I would rather stick with my iron.

I'm already playing it off the inside of my right heel. Back a bit would make it go even lower I thought.

I am guessing that you are joking.

If you aren't (but I think you are) unless your name is Jack Nicklaus, your 2 iron did not stop within 10 feet.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Handle forward with the clubface aimed slightly right and weight more forward at set-up

Thanks,

Just so I know I have it right. Hands towards the target, my shaft would lean slightly more towards the target: Wouldn't my clubface be a little more delofted this way. By opening the face, surely my shots wouldn't be straight anymore? My weight forward - more towards my toes? Sorry you've confused me. But it could be my misunderstanding.

Not anymore its doesn't. Our greens are pretty responsive and I play a lady ball - callaway pearl - but on my wife's life, within 10 feet.
