I thought I had an issue with my old Warbird 3W but this morning to tried 3 other 3Ws and really can't hit any of them well. My iron game is greatly improving and my new Burner driver has been a huge improvement. However, I'm not hitting any 3W I pick up well at all. I don't know if it's psychological or not. I hit my old '94 Big Bertha 2 iron much better and more consistently than I've ever hit a 3W.

FWIW, I'm either slicing or hooking them. I only hit a good shot with any 3W I've picked up one in ten swings.

I think I'm just going to take it out of my bag and maybe add another hybrid for the time being.

Thoughts?

Until you can hit one well on the range, you don't even want it in your bag during a round -- a second putter would be more useful than a club that you don't believe you can hit well.

How is your ability with a 5W? When I had trouble with 3W - and I've since found one that I like - I was pondering replacing my 5W with a 4W and letting that be the woods section. I didn't implement this, so I don't know how good or bad an idea it is, although maybe a pro has done this to get an extra wedge in?

If you can hit a 5W: I have nothing to say to you really.

If you can not hit a 5W: I couldn't until last week. I read the latest "GOLF" magazine issue, and it fixed it. Stay slower on your backswing, keep your left arm (if a righty) straighter, and feel like your "hitting down" on the ball more then you would normally with a wood, instead of trying to scoop it.

The problem may be a combination of ball position and backswing. Place the ball back of where the driver ball position would be, then, take the club back low and very slow and make sure you complete your backswing and hinge your wrists. Because you lack confidence, more than likely you are: swinging too fast, not completing your backswing, and, gripping too tight which is preventing you from hinging your wrists.

Ya, I too cannot hit a 3 wood of the ground, except I hit it almost better then my driver off a tee. I think for me its 100% mental, but I usually hit my 5 wood in most situations anyway, so it doesn't bother me too much

I cant really hit my 3 wood off the deck at all i'll hit it sweet and it goes heaps low, i get the distance out of it but if theres a bunker 40m away i would be struggling to get it high enough to get over the bunker. When i hit my 3 wood it just seems to really slowly climb but the highest it gets in the air is about 10m.
I'm looking at buying a Cleveland Halo 19* hybrid instead of a 3 wood to fill in the gap between 5 wood and 3 iron, i dont mind losing my 3 wood even though i hit it good off a tee i rarely use it. Sometimes when i'm tee'd up nicely in the rough i'll use it there.
I dunno what it is with me & 3 woods i just cant hit them, i can hit my 5 wood perfectly fine.

Its probably just a mental thing because there is plenty of loft to get the ball air borne. Just play the ball half way between the middle of your stance and your left foot. Take a big sweeping swing and you have now successfully hit a wood of the deck, lol.
