I've been Playing Golf for: 5-6 years

My current handicap index or average score is: Low 90's,.....HC 19-22

My typical ball flight is: Block Slice / Straight Draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Block Slice

Videos:

1st video is DL driver, this shot I hit a straight draw rather nice ball flight

2nd video is FO driver, this shot started right and just kept going, wouldnt of cleared an adjacent fairway easily!

Apologies they are only linked, I havent got the capacity at work to embed the video etc etc,....Thanks MBD for converting them for me,

My general shot shape is that off the FO video,,,big block,....and when i move into my irons its either a straight fade or i cut right underneath it and balloon it

My pro identified the club coming back insed the hands almost straight away from takeaway,....and one drill he has me doing is the back against a wall and swing to miss it (with a short iron) as hes trying to get my swing plane steeper,..

When i do this with the driver i just balloon it or hard slice it right

same with the irons

It'd be nice if you didn't disable embedding in your settings.

I see that you have an extremely flat shoulder turn. When you are bent over the ball in your address position, your shoulders should turn 90-degrees to your spine on the backswing. This means that between the address and top-of-the-backswing position, your left shoulder will have moved backward (away from the target) and downward (in the direction of the ball). From the DTL view of your swing, there appears to be absolutely no downward motion of your left-shoulder.

When you swing flat, you have to make some crazy arm/hand compensations in order to square the club at impact-- I see that in the degree to which your clubface is closed (facing the sky) at the top of your swing.

The clubface and shoulder plane issues are probably related. When you don't get them synced up, I bet the result is either a block fade or big roping hook.

You have a great athletic move and appear to be swinging in good balance. I think a little attention to these body-alignment issues will really help you gain consistency.

Wow thanks bjorn for the response Quite a coincedence as my focus at present is to load the right leg to avoid a reverse pivot i have going on, and to get my lrft shoulder across and into the inside of my right heel, working great at the minute Just remembering to keep the club on plane at the minute as i have a tendency to fan the club oprn and then hosel rocket the hell out of it Thanks for the advice and re-enforcing my currently practice regime

Wahey i finally figured how to embed woop woop Right anyway following on from the instruction thread i creat about my struggle with snap hooking i went to the range today and got the irons going nice, focusing on steeper shoulders, clearing the hips sorted i liked it, still a bit of a pull but i can live with it The woods/driver, oh dear me, still hooking but now mostly a big straight fade, and no idea why, i tried stiff wrists i tried loose wrists, i tried the lot but couldnt get anything near as accurate as my irons The below video has three shots, apologies for the poor lighting Shot 1 pulled left Shot 2 straight fade Shot 3 big pu

Hard to access but I would weaken your grip and see if that helps. The second shot sounded "fat" and that will often square up the face a bit which with the over the top swing you have, would produce a straight fade. Your club face is closed and in line with over the top swing causing a "pull". I think there is more to address but it is a start.

Yeah i hit a few drives fat and quite a few three woods off the deck fat, didnt realise i have an over the top swing? I always used to swing to much inside out due to a flat backseing, i swing much more upright now but didnt thing my path had gone the other way??

Would like to see the arms "hang" more (like the red line). Hands are too far away from you, everything looks a little stiff.

Shoulders and hips turn too level, like to see the shoulders turn about 90* to your address inclination (amount you are bent over at address). This causes the arms to lift and makes it hard to be consistent with timing, path and contact.

To start and turn steeper, turn both feet out at address

Will free up the knees to do their thing, get that "stick", whether you imagine it on your shoulders or hips, to point more downward.

Okay so esentially 1 stand closer so the arms hang down more ( i can do this but it feels like the club rests more on the heel unless i stand more upright 2 flare feet to allow steeper turn shoulder and hip turn ( should i feel like my right knee bends alot? Wheneveri get that feel i fat it alot) Thank you for the analysis much appreciated

The opposite actually, the right knee will lose some flex in the backswing. Left bends, right loses some flex.

Ah apologiesuve been stupidi meant the left knee Ive tried in themirror to steepen my shoulders/ hips and the only way i feel like i can acheive it is to turn the hipsback more and flex the left knee more to allow me to create the angles, looks a bit reverse pivot in the mirror though The only other way i can do it is to try the left shoulder to inside right heel feeling but that hurts and makesme feel bunched up

Yes that's exactly what you need to do, flex the left knee more. Like the video says ;-)

Film yourself demonstrating it and post it up. If the head isn't going forward (towards the target), then it's not a "reverse pivot".

Would not recommend doing the left shoulder to right heel, can move the head to the right and not allow for enough "stretch".

    • Day 50 - 2024-11-19 Hit about 20 balls focusing mostly on the backswing. That's going to be my November and December.
    • They need to do something to speed  up play. They could randomly  time  players. One  idea would  be  if a group gets  out  of  position they are disqualified. If its a group of  3 and  its  1 player playing like  molasses i can imagine an exciting interaction, lol
    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
