I have a brand new Titleist 910D3, I only played 3 rounds with it.

Today I went to the range, and was looking at the face, and discovered two hairline cracks, one on the bottom, and one on the top.

I purchased it online, so I called my local Golfsmith and they said to bring it to them and they can have it shipped to Titleist for a warranty replacement.

I'm mad because it's going to take 3-4 weeks. I can't believe this happened, I've never had a Titleist driver break on me, I've owned a lot of them too.

Has anyone had this happen with a 910? If so, how long did it take before you got it replaced?

I also have a tee time on Saturday. I'm thinking on just using it anyways, and then I'll take it to Golfsmith. Think it will be OK?

Here is the pic of it:

Where did you buy this because this has the signs of a counterfit club?

What? Why do you think it's counterfeit? I bought it on ebay for $350, and the seller had 100% feedback.

If it's counterfeit, it's one hell of a counterfeit, because I hit this thing like 305yds a few times when playing.

When I first got it, I inspected it and everything looked fine. The lettering, the serial number all looks good.

When I called Golfsmith, they said they will verify it's authenticity when I bring it in.

Here are some more pics of it.

That club looks legit to me.  I see no differentiation between the pics you posted and how the club appears on the Titleist web site.  Chalk this one up to s$^% happens.  Defects do sometimes leave the factory.  Who knows, maybe that's how/why the Ebay seller got it and was able to sell it to you for a good price.

Ah thank god, I was worried for a minute. I will know for sure when I take it to Golfsmith this morning.

I agree defects can happen, at least it happened now instead of 6 months from now.

When I got the club, there were no cracks on the face, and I inspected it really good. So this definately happened when hitting range balls yesterday.

I got my AP2s at Golfsmith, I'm kicking myself for not just getting the 910 there. I could have had a replacement on the spot. Now I'll have to wait.

You'll likely get a brand new club out of it.  Stinks that you have to wait for it, but at least you got a good price.  And who knows maybe the guy will be cool about it and pull you one from stock.  Back in college when I worked at a large golf shop if I received the okay from the manufacturer that they would replace the club I'd go ahead and give the customer a club from the floor and replace it with the one that came in.  That is if it wasn't close to inventory count time and the guy with the broken club was nice to me.

It's a counterfeit!!!!! I just got back from Golfsmith, and they inspected it. The hosel didn't match up with the real one they had.

They also called Titleist, to verify the serial number, and they said that number matches up to a putter!!! OMG

Golfsmith has the club, they are sending it to Titleist for further inspection. Then Titleist will send me a letter stating the club is counterfeit.

I can't believe how close this fake was though. Scary.

I also opened up a case with ebay/paypal so I will get a full refund.

The ebay user id is: joncar14    Stay away from this guy!

I ended up buy a new D3 from Golfsmith.

This is the 2nd recent thread about fake Titleist clubs bought on Ebay.  We should all be very careful when buying this way.  There are lots of reputable sellers, but these are just a couple of examples of buyers needing to be aware of what they are bidding on.

Yes very scary!!!

When the manager at Golfsmith looked at it, and then compared side by side, they were really close.

The hosel length on the fake club was a little longer than the real hosel.

And the interlockings on the hosel, you could tell they were poorly made compared to the real one.

I'm curious what bhp1404 initially saw in your photo of the face.  He immediately called it.  Was it the grain of the metal?  Even the grooves looked identical.

Yes he was right on that one.

Actually another thing that didn't match, was the black paint, it wasn't an exact match to the real clubs.

I looked this seller up.  Surprisingly only had a couple negative reviews.  Makes me want to sign up for an account and say he sells knockoffs.  Can you review someone you haven't bought from?

No you can't.  But when ebay finds out he is selling counterfeit items, his account will be closed.

Another sign that is was fake, is the face cracked. Cheap meterial they used.

The guy at Golfsmith said he has NEVER seen a cracked face like that on any 910 drivers.

And the first one was also Motley.  He is the one who noticed the fake AP2's and reported them to Titleist and ebay.  (Did you ever get a conclusive response from Titleist or ebay on that one?)

This stinks ... the exact opposite of karma.

Conclusion:  I will stay away from ebay because you obviously can't know who's legit and who isn't.

This is a larger scale problem apparently...from another site:

"I ordered a Titleist D3 off ebay a couple of weeks ago and it came in just fine and was the real deal. Well I ordered another one for a friend of mine a few days ago and it came in fake. Tell tail signs were when I cut the grip off the serial number on the diamana shaft are painted on where as all real diamana shafts have it laser etched into the shaft. Also, an easier way to tell if your 910 is fake is to take the weight out and look for a blueish color around the inside of the metal where the weight goes in. The real D3's don't have any color variation. The other big tell tail sign for me was it didn't swing weight correctly at all for the stock D3. What's crazy is I ordered both clubs from the same seller. Who knows if he even knows what is real or fake. Just watch out."

I googled "counterfeit titleist 910" and a ton of items pops up.  Some company in Asia has taken a special liking to this particular line and has gotten really good at it.  Titleist seems to be aware of the problem as well.

The main reason i called it right away is because Titleist is one of the highest quality club maufacturers in the world and have very few defects. Which is why they are more money than everyone else, you get what you pay for. Everything i have read about fake clubs is that they are so much more likely to break than the original. Its good that your getting your money back and getting the "real" thing. And i guess your welcome. lol

    • Day 125 12-15 Half swings with flow drill. Focused on rhythm, loading trail side then getting to lead side correctly. Hit a few foam balls but mostly drilling without ball.
    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
