Took delivery of new custom fit irons 3 weeks ago. They are an inch and a half longer so very different to what I've grown used to. They are causing me some problems. I regularly catch it 'fat' and any clean connections seem to be blocked left or hook. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Can you post a pic of you at address with the club?  Preferably one from down the line.

Longer clubs will cause a flatter swing, why not just go get them cut down, apparently you didn't get fitted well if this is the result.

Maybe they are fitted properly but he was using clubs the didn't fit him before. Edit: To the OP try standing a little straighter at address. Might help.

How tall are you? I suspect you got used to bending over to get the club on the ground with a vertical lie angle, and now you're standing taller with a shallower lie angle and the ball more out in front of you instead of under you, giving you a flatter swing plane. Probably just gonna take a certain amount of adjustment.

Go to the range and hit a ton of 'L to L' punch shots until you can do them in your sleep. Then start lengthening out the swing progressively..

Yeah, that's why I'm curious to see your address position.  I imagine you were compensating with your old clubs.  Now that you have properly fitted clubs they don't work as well with the compensations you made for the shorter irons.

I'm 6'6" and I played with a set of cut down clubs until my sophomore year in high school when I finally got fitted for 1 1/4" longer.  It took a while to get used to because I was compensating by bending over so much but I wasn't going to spend the cash on a set of clubs until I was serious enough with golf and kind of stopping growing.  Now I have a hard time swinging clubs that aren't extended.  If I'm setting up with a friends 7 iron it just looks wrong because the loft doesn't match the length in my mind.

I know with my shorter clubs I was kind of lunging at the ball, then when I got longer ones I would hit everything fat at first.  Shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 range sessions to get your posture correct.
