Today when i went to a callaway demo at a local golf course. They had an interesting way of checking lie. They had a special impact tape, that had the angles marked, 1,2,3,4,5 degrees with 0 degrees pointing vertical. What they did was mark the ball with a marker, and the marker would mark the tape. You set the mark so its pointing up and down. Make a swing, if the mark is at an angle, then your lie is off, if its vertical, then its on. I think this might be a good way to check yourself, if you just get a we erase marker.

Yes I've recently learned about checking lies this way and I think they're correct.  Lie boards aren't as accurate.

Do you have a picture of this? I think I have it, but would be interested in seeing a visual.

In my Bag (work in progress):

Driver: TaylorMade 10.5* R11, Regular Shaft
3W: TaylorMade Burner 15*

3Hy: Nike SQ Sumo Hybrid
Irons: 2005 TaylorMade Rac OS, 4-AW

Wedge: Cleveland CG14 56*, old dingy 64* wedge that I have no business using

Putter: Odyssey White Hot Tour Putter or a Cleveland Classic Anser-Style

Kicks: Footjoy E-Comforts

Ball: Used Titleist DT Solos.

I have done this before, after realizing how much of a mark was left behind from my putting alignment line that I had put on the ball.  The only thing though, is the line has to be perfectly vertical when you set the ball up, otherwise the mark left behind on the club won't be a true indication.

Were you able to find out who might sell that special impact tape?

Yea, thats the tricky part...

No i don't have a picture of this, i was just thinking it might be possible to do with out impact tape.

it is possible to do without impact tape..the only benefit of the tape is just that its going to show up easier than on the metal of the iron.

I get marker spots on my irons all the time when I hit my ball markings.

You could take a protractor or something to the range with you one day and use the straight edge to make sure the line is truly vertical and then there ya go.
