Recently got back into golf handicap at the minute is around the 20 mark.Recently borrowed a set of ap1's off a friend and really liked the feel of them and how sweet i struck them. However was thinking about purchasing them and wondering wether to go for these of the better feel of the ap2's but obvioulsy with less forgiveness as people state these have, how less forgiving are they?.Anybody got any opinions?

Thanks

Hi Danny,

I've played them both, currently have the AP1's.  Not sure what your definition of "feel" means, however all else being equal (ie similar shaft specs) I would definitely recommend the 1's over the 2's for golfers in your handicap range.

Shaft is important, however.

FYI, I think there is another thread on this topic somewhere.

Also, when players start talking about more control or workability of the 2's I'd take that with a grain of salt unless you're close to scratch and can play either a 5 or 10 yard  draw or fade on command.  You can still draw and fade the 1's and most other game improvement clubs.

Regards,

John

If you can slice it, you can "work" it.

thanks for the heads up, probably go with the ap1's then probably go with the 710's too as from previous threads I've read theres not much difference between the 710s and the newer 712s with the price differences taken into consideration

One other thing: if you decide down the road that you'd prefer the shorter irons in AP2s, you could get those separately. When Titleist first came out with the AP series, they were designed to mix (the launch angles and lofts were chosen with this in mind). It isn't uncommon to see a set of AP1 from longest through the 6 or 7-iron and then AP2s through the wedges.

Driver:  Titleist 915D2.  4-wood:  Titleist 917F2.  Titleist TS2 19 degree hybrid.  Another hybrid in here too.  Irons 5-U, Ping G400.  Wedges negotiable (currently 54 degree Cleveland, 58 degree Titleist) Edel putter.

This is a good point, although depending on how quickly the OP improves there may be other options by then.  I'm currently working on this very thing.  I have not found the right shaft yet.  I have the Dynamic HL's on the AP1's.  Looking to bring the ball flight down on the AP2 shorter clubs, but haven't found anything I like yet.

I agree on the difference between the 710's and 712's in the AP1's being small.

Thanks again for the feedback guys currently looking at around £289 for a decent used set off the net for the ap1s so think I'm going to give them a try first then I may decide at a later date to chop and change up abit and go with the ap2's from 7 thru to wedge. Hopefully get the handicap back down to a decent lower score than current

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
