I had both 21° and 24° hybrids in place of the 3 and 4 irons until recently.  My ball striking has improved to the point that I felt comfortable enough to pull the 4H and put he 4 iron in the bag, and so far I have been hitting it well.  Not comfortable enough to pull the 3H and put the 3 iron in just yet... but getting close.

3,4,and even 5 irons.  I really like my Ping G15s in those lofts.

I found that the 17* G15 is a little hard for me to get airborne consistently so I went to a 5W (18* Cobra Baffler) that I really like hitting off the grass.  I'm still working on consistency but I get a nicer ball flight.

Fairway: Cobra Baffler Rail F 3W & 7W
Irons:  Wilson Ci
Wedges:  Acer XB (52* & 56*)

I've tried to replace my 2-iron (a blade when I bag the Mizunos and a SGI with the Clevelands) but found I prefer having it in the bag and replacing my 3-iron with a 21 degree 3-hybrid. The 2-iron is still used every round for position off the tee and for the odd recovery shot. If I need 2-iron distance into a green I just back off my 3-wood or step on the 3-H.

Replace my 3-iron and 4-iron. Go from 3-wood to 3-hybrid to 4-hybrid to 5-iron.

This is my first year golfing. After going a few times at the end of the summer with some friends I am totally loving the game.

I just picked up a 3h and 4h to see what the talk was about. I love them I hit them very true. I am still experimenting with what I need in my bag, the 3 is staying for sure.
