Question about Na's "bad timing" confrontation late in the third round: Why?  I thought you were no longer "on the clock" if you caught up to the group in front of you.  At that point in the round Na was clearly caught up - even having to wait for the group ahead to clear the green. Surely the PGA doesn't want him to hit into other players just to adhere to a "shot clock"!

What follows is what I think I heard the commentators say, but I didn't record it, and I was only listening with one ear, so don't hold me to it. But: There are stages of slow play notifications. First, after you get too far behind the group ahead of you, you're told you are on the clock. Once your group is on the clock, if you take too long to hit a shot, you're given a first warning. There is no immediate penalty for that, but it goes on your record. And if you do it again before you are off the clock, you get a second warning, which does involve a penalty. Here's an article about it, but I don't know if it's the most recent rule: http://www.golftoday.co.uk/news/yeartodate/news03/pgatour7.html My understanding is that after Na was on the clock, he got a first warning, which he appealed. The official then went back to wherever he goes to review the tape, denied the appeal, and came back out to tell him that his appeal was denied. By then his group had caught up and was off the clock, so when you saw him talking to the official he wasn't being told to speed up, he was just being told that his earlier appeal had been denied.

interesting- Surprised to see an 8 degree gap in wedges, considering he is carrying 4.  Also seems like a decent gap between his 14.5 and 20, but I understand this more as you have to make choices sometimes.

It's probably just the number on the clubs.  Guys bend these clubs to fit the gaps they need, so in reality I'm sure there isn't an 8 degree gap.

I think he did that yesterday as well- shows what sort of shape he is in...don`t imagine that Colt Knost or Kevin Stadler does that very often.

I don't care what you say THAT is a funny remark ... if a little cruel :-) Matt showed his cool with his approach shot on the 18th - that thing was a pin-seeker even if it did land short. He strikes me as having a good head on his shoulders, that fellow. Brock's: thanks for the explanation, I learned from that. A lot is happening off-camera (and off commentary) in a slow play situation, hard to keep up with it.

I don't know for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if Kuchar placed the 62° wedge in his bag just for this week.  The rough was really high around the greens, and they were playing fast, to say the least.

Possible.  I would imagine that some of the guys make changes for different courses with their fairway woods/hybrids/long irons and/or their wedge set ups depending on length of rough, type of sand in the bunkers, firmness (sand and turf), length of shots they are likely to encounter, etc.

FWIW - with the storm system that is currently hammering Florida, the 17th at Sawgrass currently is truely an island green.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
