Couple of wedge questions

Ok so I recently had a freak accident with my wedge shaft (the shaft literally just caved in) I've decided to upgrade my wedges now instead of spending money on a shaft.  So I have narrowed my choices down to the Titleist Vokey SM2, Cleveland CG15, or the New Callaway forged wedges.  My questions are about these clubs.  I noticed the Cleveland CG15's have a particularily rounded leading edge which I am not a big fan of, I've never looked at Vokey's do they have that more of a square leading edge?  Also any other input you could have would be great.

Also my current wedge set up is PW 47°, GW 51°.  So which would I be better suited for? a 54° and 58°, or a 56° and 60°.  I should mention that I do have a little more trouble controlling the distance of my GW then I do with a sand wedge or lob wedge.

Also wondering what your opinions are of the x jaws Callaway wedge as they are on for under $100 a piece.

Vokeys r slightly rounded. A great wedge highly reccomend them.

Best suited wedge combination... Do you want to carry three wedges, or four?  Also, you will be adding another company's wedges to your CB1 PW. The wedge mix should be based on yardage gaps between the PW and other wedges. Head design and shaft length of the other wedges will determine how far the ball flies, not just loft. Also, do you want to manage three wedges or four?

Since you're reworking your bag, I suggest you go for a wedge fitting. A clubfitter can use an impact board to check and see if you're a digger or a slider, or in between. This will help you select the right bounce for your wedges.

Scratch wedges appear to have fairly straight leading edges.

I play CG14s, and also have two Callaway XForged wedges (pre-Jaws). I have test-hit the CG15 several times, and the model would require a little extra practice to get the most out of it. But, a 13-HDCP should be able to handle it.

The XForged (pre-Jaws) came out between 2005 and 2008, and are quite similar to the new Calla Forged. The early XForged had a smooth rounded sole, while the later versions offered C-Grind, in which metal was taken off the heel and toe of the sole to allow more opening and closing the face for assorted finesse shots. The latest Callaway Forged has a blended C-Grind, which is a more gradual blend of the early and later XForged soles. The new Forged also has less bounce (11* or under) than the original XForged. I really liked the 56* XForged, but dropped it when I went with CG14 GW, SW and LW (common tempo).

In general, I find that Cleveland wedges get the ball up well without ballooning it - but are not the longest-distance wedges for their lofts. Other ST posters have said similar things. Also, the Cleveland wedges have the TRAction wedge flex shaft. It has a stiff butt to prevent the ball from ballooning, but a softer tip section to allow for spin on partial shots. This is similar to the Spinner wedge shafts.

I have no experience with Jaws wedges, but if you like them you can get two for $99 at some golf shops which still have them.

Thanks for your input.  I realize that these wedges will be different then my PW and GW which is why I'm looking for something that has a fairly flat leading edge.  This would also be helpful because I do not take huge divots.

I have a lot of shots that are in the 120 or less range and once they start getting closer than 100 I get lots of problems.  This would be my primary reason for adding the 4th 60° wedge to help control as well as give me a club with more playability (lob shots ect)

hmm I leave huge divots with my wedges and I try and carry the solid swing i have with my wedges to my irons and they just leave huge divots and i cant follow through. Is there any technology or things i can do to make my irons swing more like my wedges (ie: rounded leading edge)

Sounds like you're hitting down on the ball so much you're not hitting through it.

You might get a lesson to find out why. A pro could work with you on your set up and weight shift.

I would personally go with the Cleveland since I think they make better wedges. I really like their grooves and the spin they produce. Also consider the Cobra Trusty Rusty wedge. They have new models now and they are really nice. I think a 56* wedge is the most versitile so I would get one of those if I were you. The Trusty Rusty's go 51, 53, 55, 57, 59, 61 while most are even numbers, so I was considering a 57*

Thanks for your help guys.  After much debate and trying out a few wedges I went with a 56° and 60° Callaway Jaws CC wedge liked them the most and they were also the cheapest, just waiting to arrive and get them lengthened and ill be good to go.

Is that just kind of a mental thing? I dont have too much money so i think i will take a couple range sessions and try and figure it out but now that i have gotten pretty good I think I would definitely benefit from a lesson/pro to help me round out my game.

I just switched from vokeys to jaws wedges cause my vokeys were worn and I got 3 jaws wedges for 125.00 from 3balls.com I like the feel of these and the weight of them as well.The leading edge for me was not a deal breaker,as I hit both clubs very well.I went from 52,56 and60 in my vokeys to 50,54 and 58 in the cally,s.I was looking for a lil more yardage to cover my yardage gaps.These things spin just as good as vokey,s if not more.Especially with the mack daddy grooves.WOW!
