i play a fiew times a week... i have a knock off driver cause i havnt have much extre for clubs... now im ready for a purchase

a fiew things im tryin to figure out 1) i have a swing speed of 117 consistantly. average distance 295-305 the shaft in the driver i carry though is a reg flex...and the loft is 10.5. i hit the ball extreemly high but always with a fade or slice always feels like i have to change my swint to hit it solid

question is should i go to a lower loft or stiffer shaft or both

was looking at a 8.5-9.5 with a x-stiff shaft but would like a little imput before i buy thanks large

What's the reason for your change? Are sick of hitting the ball 300+? Haha :-P If its working for you, there's no point in changing a thing. If you would like to get a new driver. The best thing to do would be to go get fitted. Go to your local proshop, give them your budget and go from there.

That's a very high swing speed for an amateur, are you swinging out of your shoes, or is it a controlled swing with lots of lag?

You really need a stiff or x-stiff shaft in your driver.

With these poor numbers you need to get a few lessons.

Until you can hit the ball respectable distances, you should forget about shaft flex.

Have some lessons, try to get your swing speed up and don't be discouraged about your current lack of distance.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

im 6 foot 2 so i have a long swing and a good whip i guess... no im not tired of hitting it 300 just seems when i miss its right...wasnt sure if a stiffer shaft or lower degree could give more control and id like to get some of the new tech in my golf bag. so was curious

i kno right ill work on that

If those numbers are good, a guess would be x-stiff at 9.5 loft - but everything depends on the characteristics of the shaft and a lower spin head. A shaft is more than flex.

I was having this issue with an old '08 TM Burner S flex I was playing with.  I just picked up a Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead 8 degrees with an Aldilia NV 75-X shaft in literally once hit condition.  I found this by chance in a pro shop at a course I never play at for $15.  Bottom line, I can go at it as hard and fast as I want, and the ball goes dead straight with purpose; no more 110 ft high balloon shot.

Wait, you know your consistent swing speed on the number but have to use a range of numbers for your handicap?  Interesting.

Not really. Lots of guys don't keep a formal handicap but do remember launch monitor results.

I suppose.  Just seems odd to me that someone would have such a consistently high clubhead speed (and know the number) yet not be able to nail down a handicap.

Myself, I have no clue what my clubhead speed it.  I have a vague idea of the range.

I'm going through a swing change, don't belong to a club, clubs are about relatively new, the winter just ended and it was a drought winter - I could make some money for a time this summer if I kept a handicap and the swing finally takes shape.

But I went on an LM a few months ago and remember some numbers...

I'd like to get on a Trackman some time this summer.  About 10 years ago when I was playing a lot I knew my launch characteristics and knew my equipment was properly fitted.  I did get a little preoccupied with ball speed though.

The only way to know what would work best for you to get fitted. But I do imagine at 117 ss the whip would be hurting you alot. I have friends that havent upgraded to stiffs and are still using regular that I know can swing in the 115 area and he slows his swing down to about 90 to make his ball more controllable. How the ball ever hits the fairway with a reg flex and 117 is beyond me.

just a update i had a family friend who makes and trades clubs give me a x-stiff clevland driver 8.5 and wow what a difference i have used it for about 6 rounds and the big slice is gone... very good feeling. now i can actually hit a draw or a power fade and soooo much more controlable... i even picked up a fiew yards of distance which was a nice bonus. thank you all for your imput and suggestions.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
