So I was a sports store today (normally where I buy my hockey gear) and it turns out they have a little selection of Irons mostly Nike and Cleveland clubs.  Anyways I was looking at putters and stumbled upon a nice looking spin milled (I think thats what its called) putter.  It felt like it was well weighted I looked at the Price tag and it was $59.99 Cleveland it looked like it was a few years old.

Anyways my question I know some of you will be thinking test it out if it feels good take it.  but I was just wondering what the quality of Cleveland putters are like? Are the inexpensive cause they are poorly made, or inexpensive because they are not as well known for putters like Titleist and Odyssey?

Cleveland changed to using face inserts. If it doesn't have a plastic face insert - looks like it's milled - buy it. I think it has Classsic stamped on the bottom. (Mines in the car, so I can't check it out.)

If it says soft stainless - BUY IT !   Those are "sleeper's"  - mine holds its own against my Scotty Camerons. Soft and feels good.

They actually sold or I should say didn't sell for $59 new - why I don't know.

I don't think they made that many and didn't advertise them. The stock grips a cheapie and that can be changed.

http://www.golf.com/photos/clubtest-2010-blade-putters/cleveland-classic-4-putter is I think along the lines of what it looks like not positive if the one I was looking at was soft stainless. When I saw it I saw red grip immediately thought that is odd that this store would have a Cameron putter.  It definitely didn't have an insert because that is what took me as a shocker.  My current putter has that agsi aluminium insert that I hate, I bought it a few years ago for 140 and couldn't justify spending another 130+ on a new one.

Possibly the most underated putters out there IMO.  I have a black 1.5 and love it.

Ya I think when I get the chance this weekend maybe I'll buy it. For $60 you can't really lose, plus I'll try selling a few of my wedges to make up for it.

I have a black milled center shafted 5.5 "classic" collection Cleveland putter. To me, the Cleveland classic milled putters are some the best flatsticks out there...not to mention the price (around $80 new). I HATE inserts, and I have owned two scottys and these to me are better than scotty's- total sleepers in my opinion.

here is what I ahve: http://www.clevelandgolf.com/US_classic-black-platinum-5_5-putter__classic_bp5_5_putter__viewProd_putters.html

In my bag:
Titleist 910D2 w/Diamana Kaali'Stiff
Titleist 910F w/ Diamana Kaali' Stiff
Titleist 910F Hybrid 19 degree w/ Diamana Kaali' Stiff

Titleist AP1 Irons - TT S300
Titleist Vokey SM 50, 54 & 58 - Titleist Scott Cameron Newport

Cleveland putters are cheaper because they arent as well-known.  Ive owned several of them and theyre great putters.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
