Today I was on the driving range doing my regular thing trying to figure out wtf I am doing wrong. I've heard of Stack and Tilt before but never have I really looked into it, the only thing I've read about it is something about making your weight go towards the target on your backswing. I've never bothered with it for some reason.

Today I said **** it since I was hitting it poorly and I made this new interesting turn away form the ball where I tried to stay much more on my left foot than normal leaning toward the target. It resulted in a much different feeling especially at the top of the backswing, it's hard for me to explain how it felt,

but holyyy shit I started hitting the ball well. I've hit the ball well before, and hitting the ball well before just felt nothing like this and the ball was going a lot further too!

I searched stack and tilt looking for one of those iacas all you need to know about *subject here* threads but couldn't find one for stack and tilt. Could somebody point me in the right direction?

I could be totally wrong about this, but I have been led to believe that Golf Evolution and Five-Simple-Keys are promoting and teaching the Stack and Tilt swing.  I guess, to me, I have just read it as "the five simple keys of focus using the Stack and Tilt method".  Therefore, I have thought that most of Erik's videos, relate to the Stack and Tilt swing.

Please, anyone, correct me if I am way off base here.

FWIW, you read wrong. :) Your weight doesn't shift towards the target in an S&T; backswing. It might feel like it to some people, but it doesn't.

I think Mike got you covered there. Buy the book.

You probably didn't actually shift your weight forward during the backswing, but you probably made a more centered shoulder turn with minimized head movement, so that's good.

We (Golf Evolution) don't teach S&T;, and haven't really for a few years. We can teach it, but it's one swing pattern and we allow for and even encourage (depending on several factors, including player build, history, flight preference, etc.) variations. We teach 5 Simple Keys, and have for well over a year now (there was a middle time when we taught "the golf swing" without necessarily calling it "5SK" or anything else), because ALL great golfers do all of those five things when they're playing well, and the poorer the golfer, the fewer of the Keys they do well.

We made a fair amount of videos two and three years ago, too - but even the ones we shot a year or two ago aren't S&T-specific.; They're simply good golf swing specific.

True to our name, we've "evolved" beyond the single swing pattern that S&T; represents. They're trying to re-brand it a bit, but it's one swing pattern . It's a very good pattern and a lot of people who want to learn on their own are still well advised to get the book and learn it if they're going to do so on their own, or of course to see a 5SK instructor near them.

Sounds like you had the same epiphany I had about 12 yrs ago. I had been chunking and thinning for what seemed like ages, and one day out of disgust, I figured if the bottom of my swing is always 1-2 inches behind the ball, why not just move my CG towards the target 1-2 inches? I used to set up with a bit of a backward leaning spine angle (as directed by numerous Golf Digest instructionals), and this really just straightened me up and put more weight on my left foot. I found that I still moved my head back during takeaway, so I added a 'keep the head still' key, and BAM! almost instant pureness on every stick in the bag.

I would caution, I agree with Eric - don't focus on shifting your weight forward on takeaway, as this may promote the dreaded reverse pivot, but rather start with a little more weight on your front foot, and then just keep the head EXACTLY where it is during backswing AND downswing. The result is usually pure shoulder rotation, which when combined with a lateral hip slide to start the downswing results in effortless power.

BTW, I had been using this swing for a few years when I saw these two guys on tv promoting a new type of swing called the Stack 'n Tilt, and I was like, 'Hey, that's MY swing!'.
